I wrote this company a day before their auction in order to be sure I was able to properly bid and purchase an item.  I am an attorney and a client asked that I do this for him becuase it was a foreign auction and he was interested in purchasing a shotgun for his son.  The auction replied that I shoudl have no issue and alluded to shipping and other aspects of the transaction in the event I were high bidder.

Auction day came; I waited for my item to come to auction.  I had placed an advance bid at the asking amount to ensure that the initial bid would be respected.  The auction started at that amount.  There was no activity for close to 30 seconds.  The auctioneer waited and waited.  Suddenly, it appeared there was a "floor" bid (in my experience, a floor bid in an internet auction is always questionable when there is no online bidding activity).  Immediately after the floor bid registered, I attempted to outbid the floor bid (I did so far faster than the initial bid process or "floor bid" was made.  Nonetheless, the auction did not respect or honor my bid and moved to the next item with the winner being the "floor bid".

I questioned the auction about this issue and they apologized but would not comment as to why they closed the auction so fast or who the mysterious floor bidder was.  In fact, other than apologizing (which is an admission of negligence) this business did nothing to allay my concern about impropriety in the manner in which the auction was handled or who the mystery bidder was.  Instead, they did what every bad business does.  They made their mistake my problem and then refused to reply or have any dialogue with me.  Honestly, I was hoping these woudl be stand up people.  I have demand for the type of products they auction.

With the foregoing said, Joh. Springer's Erben is clearly a self-serving business with very shady practices.  You have been warned.  If you are overseas and have little to no recourse, DO NOT USE THIS AUCTION!
