First off we made the mistake of not checking on this company before using! A mistake not to be repeated! Our story starts bad and ends worse! First we were given a price a 99.00 an hour for 3 "professional" men to come and that we would have to meet a 3 hour minimum...ok we thought no big deal because we have used movers before with the same contents in our home and it took them 2 hours to move everything and it was about the same distance as we had moved before so we figured no more than $300.00 maybe $350.00 right. We were only have them move the big furniture items which we had everything broke down and ready to walk out the door, (which is how we had done it previously when moving) we even had our glass shelves wrapped and ready but they said they did not like the way we did it and upwrapped it before we even saw what they were doing. Even after telling them that we had to be done no later than 4:30 They moved slower than snails pace I kid you not! Something that should have taken no more than 2 hours (and the 2 hours is only because we had stairs) took them 4 LONG HOURS! The movers then get the truck to the new loacation and tell us they will not unload until they receive payment of over $800.00 dollars. What kind of reputal buisness does this! Hold you furniture hostage while you OVER PAY them! Of course we pay them because we want our furniture what else are you going to do on a Saturday night standing in your driveway with all your major furniture sitting in back of some truck being held hostage! So what was we getting for over 800 dollars humm lets see ....we were charged for a 2 hr traveling time when by the way we moved less than a 2 miles away! We were over charged for rolls of tape, which by the way they used way too much of....they sat on our floor while one guy wrapped at his snails pace (the other guy watched) our items in blankets and then taped the blanket on from top to bottom around and around and around! We were charged a 12% fuel charge which by the way was not really based on the fuel used it was based on the labor charges (How long and how many it took the guys to move us) How does labor become fuel? So they charged us for 2 guys to come 4 1/2 hrs late, hang out at our house, move about at snails pace and b.s. about who knows what. Use up unneeded amounts of tape, drive less than 2 miles down the road, use up less than a gallon of fuel just to hold our furniture hostage. Which we ended up helping to get off the truck just so we could get done before Monday morning came!

Mrs. Marcroft, while I am sorry that you are unsatisfied with your move, we have attempted to make every accommodation to remedy your dissatisfaction. Secondly, quite a few of your assertions are completely incorrect and misleading. I will address them in order.

First of all, our record speaks for itself. In the time this website has been established, we have conducted over 9500 moves. With only three negative reports, yours being one, that represents .0003% that have reported negatively.
Secondly, to compare our prices to other companies is unfair. You were advised of all costs and charges on three separate occasions before your move began. To expect a two man moving crew to move the entire furniture contents of a home in two hours is unreasonable and completely impossible. If you had used a previous company that was able to meet such incredible expectations then perhaps you should have used them again. As was explained to you, our employees are full time professionals and they take their work seriously and they have been trained to treat your belongings as if they were moving their own household goods. They are thorough, careful and conscientious employees. They work as fast as anyone can while still being careful and moving your items safely. If you were having a problem with the speed the our men were doing your job, you made no attempt to call the office and advise us of such, thus never giving us the opportunity to resolve the issue while it was taking place. Instead you chose to insist that we remove hundreds of dollars from your bill under the threat of making negative reports to the BBB and this website. All this AFTER the men were ready to collect payment.
Next, per our mutually agreed on contract, payment is C.O.D. We fully disclosed to you before the move took place that payment in full was necessary before we offload our truck.

You assertion that you were charged two hours of travel time is incorrect. Please read your copy of your Bill of Lading. You were charged only one hour of travel. We charge one hour of travel on all local moves. This was explained to you on 10/30/07 when you booked the job with us. It was explained to you the night before your move during your conformation call, which we have recorded if you would like to hear it and at the time we arrived to conduct your move and was disclosed on your contract before we even set foot in your home. As was explained to you, the drive time covers the time before and after your move, for the men to get to and from our office, not the travel time between your origin and destination.

In regards to the material used on your job, it was explained to you beforehand that you would be responsible for any expendable materials used on your job. These materials were used to protect your belongings. What you fail to mention in your complaint is that after you called the office to complain about the material charges, my office manager refunded the full amount of materials used on your job back to your credit card.

Yes, you were charged a 12% fuel surcharge. Again, this was disclosed to you no less than three times, the day you booked the job with us, the night the conformation call was made and the day the men showed up to do your move and presented you with the contract BEFORE we even started the job. You had several occasions to object or find another mover. The fuel surcharge is not just for the purposes of covering the fuel on your job. The ever increasing cost of fuel has made surviving in the moving and storage industry very difficult. These rising costs have to be passed on to the consumer, just as they are in every other business. The only difference is that we disclose these costs beforehand and on your bill. Either way, you had ample opportunity before we began your move to either dispute it our find help elsewhere.

In closing Mrs. Marcroft, we did everything in our power to appease you and do a quality job with your belongings. We fully disclosed all of our charges before we began your move and on our contract. We performed all of our duties and fulfilled all of our obligations. We refunded money back to you in an effort to make you happy and that still was not enough.

I am sorry that we couldn't satisfy you. We do everything within our powers to perform a quality job at a reasonable price.
If you have any further question or seek clarification on some issues, please fell free to call me. I can also forward you any paperwork or contracts that you might not have copies of. I can also play back the audio conformation of your move, fully disclosing all terms and conditions of your move the night before if you would like, in case there are any other misunderstanding.
Thank you,

Jeffrey Steinberg
