*Consumer Comment: Stop trying to negotiate - IT NEVER WORKS PERIOD !
They are trying to collect on a payday loan that I apparently took out in December of 2007. Telling me that I have to pay the amount in full, they will not work with you on anything, and the funny thing is I believe that I paid this off in full. I am working with my bank. they are threatening to contact legal counsel, Laura (who contacted me) was rude, nasty, and down right mean.

Are you sure they are legitimate???
I ask because there has been an ongoing scam all over the INTERNET - here on ROR etc, they have been using new company names lately, because the old ones are plastered all over the internet and are not working as well anymore.
FAKE COLLECTIONS. And they have been going after people with PAID OFF PAYDAY LOANS. (They hacked a Payday loan website)
You did not state much about the calls, so I'll ask a few questions.
Did they heavy accents?
Did they threaten you with immediate arrest if you did not send them money that same day?
Did they tell you that YOU HAVE TO PROVE ITS BEEN PAID?
If they have accents - its a scam - PURE AND SIMPLE READ ABOUT IT
Fake Debt Collectors Terrorizing Consumers

The next 2 questions are basically illegal even for a LEGAL collection attempt. But also applies to the Scam .
No collection agency can just demand you send money without FIRST validating the debt is yours.
The responsibility is on the collection agency to prove they have a valid case, not your responsibility to prove them wrong.
If this was a legal collection attempt - NEVER EVER NEGOTIATE WITH A DEBT COLLECTOR go to www.budhibbs.com READ DEALING WITH COLLECTORS 101 (you have to scroll down to it on the home page)
