Barbizon was nothing but a waste of hard-earned money for me. Every person that had the money to join was able to, and Lana and Peter(while they were together) made a huge mess of things-they even took the only single album I had ever made, promising a call-back which never happened for me.
I spent all my money on the audtions, etc. Yet I never had ANYONE pay ME!
I am only 5ft2 and knew I would never be a runway model, yet I was naive enough to let these people take advantage of me.

Barbizon

AUTHOR: Pb - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, August 19, 2008

I attended Barbizon when I was 17 in order to enter the modeling and acting world. I always wanted to be a model and was always told I had "the look." Barbizon in Los Angeles called me in for an audition they were holding, they told me they were hosting a audition for some los angeles agent. I did a google search on them and found that the agent was well known (trying to remember who it was, this was 3 years ago) and represented some people that I knew from television and movies. I went to the audition got to read a script for the agent, I thought I was well prepared but I screwed up big time not knowing what slate meant and being nervous in front of the camera. I then had an interview and with my parents support and enrolled in basic modeling and acting classes with barbizon, i knew i needed them after the audition. After finishing I really didnt know what to do with myself in terms of where to find work except for some convention called IMTA in New York. I had learned all the basics through my classes and have no complaints there. I passed up the opportunity to go to imta because it cost so much money and some things I read on the internet about it being a scam.

This last november I went over to Universal City Walk to take my younger cousins around for the day and found that there was a talent convention being held at the hotel they were staying in- Hilton. I went over and checked it out and found that this company international performing arts conference brought talent from all over the country and world to show themselves to agents and managers and stuff. I spoke with someone briefly, i think it was a girl named renee, and gave them my email because I was interested in learning more. In january they contacted me and I signed up for the event and attended in july which cost was way less than IMTA and now 3 years later I am ready to be more serious. wooo h*o, I walked the runway and read for soaps and commercials and the agents and managers loved me I GUESS.... I got 11 call backs and now I have the option of who I want to work with. I just transfered to USC from UC Davis- its final and now I can go to school and pursue my career in modeling and acting, i just got to get a lawyer to look at these contracts I was offered from two agencies and a manager. But back to Barbizon, after getting so involved at "IPAC" thats what they call it for short, I found out that the west coast division of Barbizon stopped going to IMTA years ago and started going to IPAC for many reasons. Mainly because it is too expensive and second because it is too big and gives the talent too little of a chance to get noticed. I heard that IMTA has 2,000-3,000 people when IPAC only had 500.

After attending IPAC and Barbizon and then surfing the net and seeing stuff that screams ripoff and scam I had to write this. By the end of the event the staff knew me by first name and gave me all the support I needed, even the executives and people running the whole thing were asking me if I needed anything or needed to be introduced to anyone. These people are in it for the best interest of their talent not anything else. I still email them if I need anything and get a fast response and questions of how I am doing.

So thank you IPAC and Barbizon for getting me started, its my job to follow through now, you guys set me up. Hopefully you'll see me soon and recognize me, I'll be sure to keep you and your staff on my VIP/ invite list! If you ever read this, Renee or anyone else, you are all like family now, Thanks Again PB
