I noticed on a recent Best Buy Credit Card Statement that Bets Buy "allowed" me to go over my credit limit by nearly $800.00 dollars.

When I called and asked how this could be possible, the response was that Best Buy did not want me to be embarrassed at the point of sale.

I responded that Best Buy should be embarrassed by engaging in this type of practice: collecting more on late and interest fees.

Nothing can be done. I am going to get caught-up and zero-out the balance.

It is no wonder why the nation is in such a crisis: a balance between undisciplined consumers and unscrupulous creditors.

I have a Best Buy card as well (worst decision of my entire life) and because of bad practices of HSBC bank, I now owe nearly double my original purchase. My only recommendation to consumers is do not sign up for Best Buy financing. It is a horrible rip-off and there is nothing the store can do to help you after you are signed up.

Normally I would say that it is the consumers fault for not reading the fine print, but HSBC makes it particularly difficult to get payments to them and are generally bad at getting my statements to me in time for me to pay them on time.

I won't trash Best Buy too hard, but the Best Buy card is a terrible ripoff and the employees are NOT well informed on the terms & conditions.

You do not really understand how credit cards work. Because there is no way you should have gone over your credit limit by $800. But since your entire report talks about Late fees and interest as well as getting "caught-up", it seems as if your real problem is you being late with your payments rather than being over the limit.

You won't get late fees assessed if you are not late. If you are getting late fees this is 100% YOUR fault because you did not pay the minimum by the due date.

The Interest assessed is not a fee. This amount is based on your balance. So even if you didn't go over your limit you would still be charged interest for the amount of the purchase.

This line is really interesting.
"...a balance between undisciplined consumers and unscrupulous creditors."

Yes it is a balance but in this case it seems as if the balance is much more toward the undisciplined consumer(you). They did not force you to make an $800 purchase. They did not force you to put it on your credit card. They especially did not cause you to be late in your payments.

How dare Best Buy for letting you get what you wanted! Take the blame on this one. Pay for your stupidity and learn from it. Next time post a real rip off report instead of showing how you don't take care of your finances.

Unbelievable

AUTHOR: Drachenfuer - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, October 16, 2008

It is unbelievable to me how little accountability anyone has anymore. There is no way you could have mistakenly gone over your limit by $800. If it was a true mistake then you really should not have a credit card. How exactly is this Best Buy's fault? For paying for a purchase YOU authorized and then god forbid, asking for an over the limit fee which is clearly stated in your paperwork? Or is it just because you thought it would be a one time fee rather than each month you are over the limit and are now ticked about it?
