bought 4 stainless steel kitchen appliances. Added 3yr extended warranty on French door refrig which was told was effective through 12/2012. Needed service in 2/12 and was told warranty expired 12/2011. Spoke with store rep who admitted they have had alot of problems with this type of thing happening and were trying to fix their problems internally. I asked to speak with manager and was told he would contact me, and after three attempts to call him, no response.
BEST BUY TREATS CUSTOMERS HORRIBLY. THEY HAVE NO CONCEPTION OF SERVICE AND DO NOT GIVE YOU EVEN THE COURTESY OF A RESPONSE. THEIR CONCERN IS THEIR BOTTOM LINE AND DOESNT MATTER IF THEY LIE OR MISREPRESENT THE PRODUCT TO YOU, YOUR SH$#T OUT OF LUCK AND WE DON'T WANT TO EVEN DEAL WITH YOU ONCE WE'VE SCREWED YOU AND GOT YOUR MONEY.
BEST BUY WILL FOLLOW IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF CIRCUIT CITY WHO ALSO LOST SITE OF CUSTOMER SERVICE AND NOW THEY ARE CLOSED! USE BEST BUY TO PRICE SHOP AND THEN HAVE THEIR COMPETITORS PRICE MATCH THEM. IF YOU WANT TO BE TREATED LIKE S$%T THEN BUY FROM THEM, IF YOU ARE SMART YOU WILL STAY AWAY AND GIVE YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY TO SOMEONE WHO APPRECIATES YOUR BUSINESS.

If you have something in writing regarding the expiration date of the plan..it should be open and shut. I do not need to be an employee of Best Buy to understand basic contractual law.
As far as your statement that Best Buy admitted any wrong doing I would hope you could post this as surely it would be to your advantage They are the number 1 retailer of consumer electronics world wide..not some flea market that comes and goes like a carnival.
As far as "their" warranty "they" do not have one (but may have a return policy of 30 days for example). With most consumer electronics the manufacturer covers it for one year. Best Buy sells protection plans which is really just an insurance policy. You need to know what you are buying before you buy it. I can explain it to you. The manufacturers warranty will tell you what it covers, and Best Buys protection plan will tell you what they cover. Unless you bought a "plan" that was invisible? I would hope for the love of all that is holy you understand that a "plan" should have been something that had literature you could read or did you believe what you wanted to hear or what some random appliances sales associate who is a human believe it or not and may be having a bad day or bad life, or make a mistake?? That can happen you know and it is not always the fault of the employer.
I am not too familiar with their warranty on kitchen appliances but from what all I know is manufacturers warranty is one year. Best Buy covers the first 30 days. Any additional coverage you purchase runs concurrent with the manufacturers one year. Still do not understand where there was a scam perpetrated here.

"Spoke with store rep... Salesman told me and put expiration date in writing."
What was the store rep or manager's response to the written agreement with the expiration date?

The most played card in the hoary ole deck - The "You must be an employee" card!
Hey, Ronny G, would you care to share some of your Best Buy pay?
Yo, OP, the guy's last post was defending you! What was there about the open and shut business you didn't understand?
Take the dad blasted Best Buy location you bought the bloody thing from to small claims court.
If the da**ed date is in writing, you'll win. And to paraphrase, "CASE CLOSED"!
Being sued is the only language that company will understand. All the lower totem pole folks you've dealt with are just covering their butts or passing the buck to avoid having any decision in their name.

Best Buy Admits they have had a problem with Customers believing their warranty began after the 1st year

Sounds like you're a Best Buy employee. So if you are you would know that Best Buy has admitted that they have had an ongoing problem with their customers believing that their warranty did not begin until after the 1 year manufacturer's warranty. There is a duplication in the 1st year that has not been properly explained to customers. Best buy has admitted that they knew this problem existed and have begun to address the problem. ONLY THE WAY THEY ADDRESS IT IS TO NOT COVER THE PRODUCT DESPITE THE DECEPTION! THAT IS A FACT.

Salesman Put Expiration Date In Writing

Salesman told me and put expiration date in writing. Supervisor at Best Buy admitted they have had a problem with this type of problem and were trying to correct the problem with the communications by their Salespeople. Unfortunately, they are not willing to accept responsibility unless and until someone pursues them with an Unfair Business Practice complaint or one for Misrepresentation.

How is it a "trick?"

Just read the freaking plan and then either decide it is a good deal and buy it..or decide it is not a good deal and CHOOSE not to buy it. Not really rocket science.

Always from Date of Purchase

Bleak Squad Black Tie Deception Plans begin from the date of purchase. Always had.
The marketing behind services performed by the Geek Squad and the programs and brochures around the Geek Squad Black Tie Protection Plans (GSBTPP) are all designed to trick the American consumer into believing that certain services are worth considerably more that their real "value. "Plans Begin from the date of purchase............exclusions include what is already covered under mfr warranty............." This is one of the biggest deceptions tht Best Buy and others use. When the mfr is responsible for repair work, any or all of the work does NOT count towards the service you receive after year 1.
Asking any of the "sales" people at BBY will most likely get you the wrong answer. All they want is a quick "YES" when offering the plan. Sheep get slaughtered. Buyer Beware. Best advice is to stay clear of BBY.

What does your written warranty agreement say?
AUTHOR: Ken - (USA)
SUBMITTED: Sunday, March 11, 2012
It should specify whether the extended warranty starts at purchase or begins when the mfr's warranty runs out.
It really won't make any difference what you may have been told or not told.
Good luck with that.
