On Tuesday, December 27, 2005 I took my car to an Emissions Testing Center in Phoenix, AZ. I passed the test but my car unfortunately would not restart so an employee of the testing center pushed my car out into the parking lot. I asked other employees for help but they claimed they were not allowed to.
I then noticed that a Big O Tires was conveniently located right next door and with no other options, I asked them to take a look at my car. I knew nothing was wrong with my vehicle and figured during the testing some wires somewhere came loose or something because I've never had a problem with it not starting before. The guys from Big O Tire said that people's cars die everyday after going through Emissions but they claim they "have no idea why". I normally would not have used Big O Tires but since they were right there I figured "why not?"
A few hours later, Joe from Big O Tires called me and said that my Starter was bad and that they had replaced it (without getting my permission first). He said the Starter including labor was $367.00. I knew something was not right and advised Joe to take the part out and I'll just pay him for labor, I didn't want their service. He said he would not do that. I ended up having to pay the $367 to get my car back.
The next day, I go to start my car and it's dead again. At this point I have a friend check on it, only to find out that the problem was a loose wire connected to my battery. We tightened it up and it started fine. So, turns out I never needed a new starter, just as I suspected. If ripping a person off isn't bad enough, I'm a single mom and not working right now so my income is very limited. Joe knew this but still took advantage just to make a few extra bucks.
