Scam 1 - This past holiday season Brad Benson Hyundai advertised it's Christmas Eve sale where you take 30% off the "Dealer Posted" price and a $2,000.00 Amex gift card. Here's the scam, the dealer posted price of a typical 2012 Hyundai Sonata was $6,000.00 over the sticker price. This additional $6,000.00 was for an upgraded Appearence Package. This package consisted of some black plastic door edge guards and black plastic fenders guards along with some pinstipes. All worth about $500.00+/-. The last car I bought (Toyota Solara) the dealer through the pinstriping in for free to sweeten the deal. As a pevious report noted, the $3,000.00 price reduction is for some select approved rebates, including the Brad Benson Loyalty rebate.
Now when you take your test drive with a Sales Associate, he tells you he's going to give you the best deal possible, never mentioning the rebates. When you sit at his desk, he shows you a piece of paper with he deal, and yes it is 30% off the dealer posted price that has been increased by $6,000.00. So where's the deal. You may say to yourself, but I'm still getting a $2,000.00 gift card and that still sounds like a deal. Well after getting shuffeled around from a sales aossociate to another sales person that takes down more information you think I must be getting the Amex card at the end during the financing portion of the deal?
So now comes financing. The finance person goes through your deal and tells you all the bad news about taxes, and other charges that bring the price up basically to over sticker price. He shows your final monthly payment and sign a miriade of paperwork, and you ask him, where's my gift card? He looks at you like you have two heads, and says see your sales associate. So you go bck to your sales associate, who throughs the keys at you, points to the other side of the parking lot and says, there's your car, have a nice day. NO GIFT CARD. When you talk to the sales manager he tells, that must have been throw into the deal. Disgusted you leave because nobody mentioned including the Gift Card in the deal. SO the bottom line here is make sure you know where your Gift Card is, ask questions, don't settle for the upgraded over priced appearance package.
Scam -2 When you are sitting with the financing person he tells you he has the best financing rate possible, and he can show you how to save additional funds by purchasing the extended Hyundai warrantee. So you ask to explain the warrantee that comes with the car. He tells you 50,000 miles, but the extended coverage goes to 100,000 miles. Sure you can save an additional $15.00 a month and get an additional 50,000 miles of warrantee, who would want to save money and get more warantee. This is an out and out lie. The car comes with a 100,000 mile warrentee from Hyundai. What you bought was the Brad Benson bump to bumper warantee.
A few days after you take your new car home, the finance person calls you up and tells you he fond an even better loan rate and can save you additional money per month, come on back in and sign more loan papers. this is when you find out you paid almost $3,000.00 for the Brad Benson bumper to bumper extended warantee. Yes the old bait and switch. I understand from other reports the Brad Benson Bumper to Bumper extended waratee isn't worth the paper it's written on. We'll see. I will never go back to Brad Benson to buy a car, and I tell everybody I know this story. I hope one of these days his dealership gets investigated for fraud and false advertising.
