We recently discovered that Burlington Coat Factory is selling ponchos made with domestic rabbit fur. We are asking all animal lovers nationwide to contact Burlington Coat Factory to let them know that this is not acceptable. Since this is a major shopping season, we ask that you let them know you will boycott their stores this Christmas season. Please pass this information along to others who may be interested. Other stores who encourage cruelty to animals are posted at http://www.kindplanet.org. The Bunny World thanks you.

#6 UPDATE Employee

You Go S.N. - killed, dyed and used as adornments for uncareing

AUTHOR: Jean - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, February 11, 2006

Imagine being an employee powerless to stop this abuse. Not only do they sell ponchos made from rabbits, but also coats and boots with rabbit fur trim. You can only convince yourself a couple of them were roadkill. The rest were killed, dyed and used as adornments for uncareing
people.

#2 Consumer Suggestion

Yes I Am An Activist.

AUTHOR: S.n. - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, February 07, 2005

Not only am I an animal rights activist, I am a companion animal rescuer. I don't want dead rabbit on my clothing any more than I would want a dead dog or a dead cat on my clothing. Every breeder I hear from tells me the "don't breed to excess". Gee, I wonder where all the animals I race to take from shelters before they are killed come from? If you raised rabbits then you should understand that they make wonderful companion animals, even those that were originally bred for meat. I not only want to no longer see dead animals on clothing, I want to stop excessive breeding and breeders/mills/stores from selling animals and not taking responsibility for them.

#1 Consumer Comment

This is not animal abuse...

AUTHOR: Ember - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, February 06, 2005

Just because a company sells an animal by-product at it's store, it does not make it animal cruelty!!!

I was in the rabbit industry as a hobbyist (showed rabbits and bred occasionally & responsibly - *NOT* excessively) for 13 yrs and the reason you are probably seeing "domestic rabbit" on the label would be because they were most likely market (meat) rabbits.

While I don't have the "farm mentality" myself (mine were raised as pets), I understand that people can raise animals for food or fur. I could not do that, but I know many people that raised market rabbits (and market animals of all sorts) in a kind and responsible manner. They can be raised and slaughtered humanely, but I do agree that there are people out there that aren't doing it humanely and those people do need to be stopped.

I know that animal rights activists (my apologies if aren't one, but I'm guessing you are) and animals welfarists will never see eye-to-eye, but I don't like seeing blanket statements about a subject that has so many activists that do not look in-depth into a subject before flying off the handle and boycotting things.
