I'm getting married on September 1st 2007 and I went to Davids Bridal to find my dream dress. I have never been in a wedding or let alone been to one, so I was clueless to what exactly I needed. I bought my $1,500 dress from them. The lady helping me named Ashlee told me I have to wear a long bra underneath my dress. So I bought the $80.00 bra. I had to order my dress so it wasnt in yet. When my dress came in I had to get it alerted. I got it alerted at Davids Bridal also but when I came in to try on my dress to get fitted the alerationest told me to take off the $80.00 bra Ashlee told I had to have. I took off the bra and my dress fot better without the bra so I got the dress alerted without the bra. I went to speak with a manager about the bra because it was a waste of my money. She said "No Returns" I said wow thats nice because your co-worker told I had to buy it. The manager said "put it on Ebay" I feel like I was taken advantage of. WARNING if you go there to shop beware of the bitchy attitudes and all they want is commission and that really shows.

Not scam artists

AUTHOR: Db Consultant - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, February 12, 2009

The vendors David's Bridal works with are not scam artists. They are time-share/crockery and china companies offering you a free honeymoon package at an exotic location in return for attending a sales pitch/seminar. You have the option to opt out of vendor partnerships when you register as a bride. If you attended a bridal show and offered your information to anyone there at some point, anyone of them could have been the reason for the phone calls you received anyways. Stop being so melodramatic.

And to the person who wrote this: It sounds like you gained some weight between the time you tried the dress on and the time you had it altered which is why it fit with the bra the first time and without the second time. That's no one's fault but yours.

#11 UPDATE Employee

It's not David's Bridal as a whole.

AUTHOR: Eb - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, January 31, 2009

I understand the feeling of receiving rudeness and feeling as if you were lied to at a retailer. It happens EVERYWHERE. David's Bridal is a franchise, so often times, the scrutiny is put on them as a whole. Not all David's Bridals are bad and have bad service. I am employed at a location in Brooklyn, NY. And as much as many people think that NYers are rude, they are wrong. I am very friendly and courteous and I love what I do. Yes, as a Wedding Consultant at David's Bridal, I only receive 8% of the sale, which since you're getting dresses so inexpensive, doesn't come out to much. But we also get a salary. So it's not the commission that makes me love the job so much! lol. But it is in to our benefit to add to the sale.

I personally do not push things on people that they dont think they need or may be able to get later, but it does me no good not to try. I too have been a bride in a Bridal store, not DB, and I received adequate service, she was friendly, and courteous, and smiled constantly, but she didn't help me put the dress on, and she pushed me to buy a dress I later sold on ebay, because I didn't really go there for that style. But, she WAS a good salesperson. The important thing is, do your research and don't feel like you need to buy everything all at once, if you need to come back for something, come back. The bra issue, it is a necessary item, but not all bras are the right fit for each dress. If you tried the dress on with that bra, that could have been seen by one, the consultant, and two by you. Do your research and dont rely on their opinion completely.

As was stated above, the manager should have told you that there are no returns on undergarments, as is the case with most places who sell them, but that you could have gotten something else in equal amount or a bra for your own, everyday needs. There are others there. But, all dresses need a bra unless there is one provided in the dress. It is necessary for support. If the dress does that, then good for you, I find it to be more comfortable if you do not have to use one. In any case, it should be a pleasant experience for both you and the consultant, and they do get a bad wrap at times.

But, I always say, if the attitude is there, that's not the situation, that's just the personality and maybe she is in the wrong profession. Maybe it was the only job offer. These days that is possible since jobs are so scarce. Still, at my store, we get great reviews and referrals, all of the time. We laugh, smile, have fun and try to keep everyone in good spirits! We even walk around with tiaras or veils sometimes, to keep the mood in check. It does get tiring sometimes, and this is therapeutic, believe it or not. LOL. After all, it's supposed to be a joyous occasion! And in these days, we all need that. No matter how bad things get, people still get married! Think about that for a minute.

Yesterday, I was busy, busy, busy. Today we have 45 appointments, and that's aside from walk-ins...but I am looking forward to it, and excited, it makes my day go faster and I greet everyone with a smile. AAnd hope they return one, sometimes they dont, but by the time they're done, they are. and that goes for all of the employees at DB in BK, NY. And by the way, maybe that person ordered something online, or got a magazine subscription to get all those calls and junk mail from other places, but it does DB no good to sell your information to any other company...it just does not happen. Be at peace all. And keep the love flowing!

To all of you

To the person that started this report, I am sorry for what happened to you. It is sad they have to push things on you that are not nessasary, and just to let you know, I have never been to Davids Bridal (nor would I ever go there after going on their website to look at dresses and getting sales calls and scam artist that have all my info now). I have recently found out that when you give them your name, they sell your info to all these messed up companies that will call non stop telling you that you have won cruises and all kinds of stuff that is a scam.

To the ex employee on here that said something about suggestive selling, you are a fool, because yes there is suggestive selling (if there is something you feel the person would have a need for), but to flat out lie to someone to get them to buy something is BS. And the little smart comment you made to this woman was not only disrespectful and rude, but who the hell would worry about fries at mc donalds (they don't cost 80 dollars) there is a little bit of difference between a dollar fries and a eighty dollar bra.

and to the last person on this thread before me, the only thing I disagreed with you about was saying the sales associates were bitchy from helping brides with trying on their dresses, whether the bride tries on 30 dresses or 1 dress, that is their job, if they don't like it or are going to have an attitude about it, maybe they should quit.

And last but not least, the person saying they are just trying to make the brides day special, that is a crock too or why would davids bridal sell their info to scam artists?

Some Davids Bridals are like that, but not all

AUTHOR: Alag2008 - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, February 06, 2008

I used to work for them a little over two years ago and what Ashlee did is what she gets paid to do. She did suggestive selling. She was suggesting add-ons. What may have made the entire transaction go wrong was how they told you everything, not necessarily the rules. I'm pretty sure if the manager told you "Well unfortunately our store policy is that all sales are final and we can not take the bra back," you may have been a little more incline to find something else to do with it. And be informed, that you could have also exchanged the bra for something else at least $80.00 or more in the store. That could have been a pair of shoes, a slip, or a different bra. That's not the only bra that they sale. It's the most popular one they like to put on you, but not the only one. I have been into David's Bridal recently (not the one I worked at) and I walked in and they were really rude.

Sometimes they profile you. If they don't think you have any money, they will be rude. But that's any retail to be honest. It just sucks being a bride walking into bad customer service. I had to actually snap on my consultant and told her that I have done her job before and did it way better than she did. When she found out I used to work for the company she was much nicer. Now speaking from an ex-employee point of view, let me explain this commission thing. You don't always get it. You have to make a quota to get a percentage of it. And when you do, it really isn't that much. And managers DO NOT get commission. Period.

I believe they get bonus for making monthly goals, but that's it. Only consultants make commission. And you also have to understand to, sometimes we were (or are for those who still work there) are rude at times because of so much flack we get from some brides who you have to make pigs fly for just to be satisfied. Those dresses way about 5 pounds each, and if they want to try on 30, that's a lot of work. And then some insult your intelligence as if you are beneath them, when all you are doing is helping them pick out a dress for their day.

No matter how nice you are to some, they are still grouchy and rude. And nine times out of ten, if you approach someone with a rude attitude, it's only human nature to be rude right back to you. This is how I am as an employee in retail and how I was at David's Bridal. Honestly, they don't pay those consultants enough for what they go through. This is just some insight on the company. P.S. I'm a bride as well, getting married August 23 2008 so I know what the whole bridal experience is like on both ends.

It's just suggestive selling.

Ashlee has been told to suggest items that you may want or need for your wedding. I do not work at Davids Bridal but I have worked in other retail stores and I know that they ARE trying to get you to buy things. They wouldn't make money if you didn't purchase stuff. HOWEVER. You could have waited until you got the dress to try on the bra and decide if you needed to buy it. Just because she said you needed it didn't mean you had to buy it right then. I bought my dress from David's Bridal as well as my shoes, veil, and a tiara. I just went in to buy the dress but she talked me into buying the other things. Which is great that's her job and I am so happy with the result. The point is people are always going to suggest things it's you that has to make the choice as to if you need it.

If you go eat fast food and they ask if you want fries with that and you say yes.... you can't blame them or get your money back if you decide not to eat them.

Not all but a good portion of them...

AUTHOR: Baby Girl - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, January 15, 2008

Not all David's Bridal shops may be that way, but as someone who took part in 2 weddings that all the bridesmaids spanned about 5 states, I can speak intelligently about them.

In Connecticut, the two I went to treated me very poorly. Remarks were made to me about my weight and when I inquired as to whether or not they had any dresses that had sleeves (My arms are heavily tattooed and I wanted to cover them out of respect to the older people at the wedding), I was told very snottily that they don't make dresses like that and just buy a jacket and wear that.

One of the other people in the wedding lives in PA and she left the store in tears. She is less than 5 feet tall, and she's had numerous operations and has some restrictions to what she can wear. The clerk at that David's Bridal insisted that she buy the dress in a smaller size and wear a girdel or lose about 20lbs. Not that it's any of the clerk's business, but the girls size is a result of the numerous medications she's on.

In the interest of keeping things brief I won't get into the other nasty experiences that the rest of the bridesmaids had.

In any event, Felicia, I'm sorry you lost out on 80.00. I hope other than that bump in the road, I hope your wedding went off without a hitch.

AUTHOR: Tiquisha004 - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, January 14, 2008

THE ONLY THING I WANT TO SAY IS DONT DOWN ALL DAVIDS BRIDALS UNTIL YOU HAVE BEEN TO ALL OF THEM. IF YOU ARE GOING TO CALL ONE OUT DO IT SO THAT ONE IS KNOWN AND LET THEIR MANAGERS KNOW IF THEY DONT DO ANYTHING GO HIGHER BUT DONT BLAME ALL DAVIDS BRIDALS. YES WE GET PAID OFF COMISSION BUT DONT THINK JUST BECAUSE YOU BUY YOUR DRESS MEANS WE ARE MAKING MONEY THATS NOT HOW WE ARE PAID AT ALL AND HALF THE TIME WE MAY NOT BE MAKING MORE THAT A MIN. WAGE JOB. WE ARE THERE BECAUSE WE ENJOY MAKING THIS A SPECIAL DAY FOR THE BRIDE NOT FOR THE MONEY
