I am now fighting a $687 bill from Devry University for a class that I only posted a bio in and had immediately requested to drop the course the next morning. After weeks of getting the run around from several advisors, the instructor, their financial aid department and a few supervisors nothing has been resolved. A.J. Fallico, the "academic advisor", enrolled me in Devry with financial aid while I was simulataneously enrolled at another school with financial aid. A.J. put me in a class that had already started three days prior and posts were already due. Feeling overwhelmed by the new format and realizing that I was in a class that had started 3 days prior I contacted A.J. to drop me from the class and indicated that I would start with Devry once I finished the courses I was in at another institution. I found out later from other Devry staff that advisors are aware that you cannot apply for financial aid simulataneously and A.J. was just rushing me into class so that he can land a sale. A.J. told me not to worry about starting late but just aim for a "C" because that is all he said I would need to have an acceptable grade at which time I informed him that I was not interested in just getting by but wanted a quality education. I was told by several other people at Devry that the issue would be resolved and that although the policy states that after 3 days we are required to pay 10% (of course I didn't know I was starting 3 days late and the bill I have is for more than 10%) that because of the situation billing me would be unfair policy. Everyone stalled for time and eventually started screening my calls and not returning my messages and I have now received this bill in the mail which I was told I would not be receiving. I called A.J. and he appeared to be unfazed by my notification that I was sueing Devry in small claims court and that I was filing a formal, written complaint to the Office of the Inspector General's office in Chicago on behalf of the U.S. Dept of Education. His stock response was that he could no longer speak to me and was very rude and smug on the phone. At this point my deepest concern is that since A.J. persuaded me to apply for financial aid and I listed Devry's code that they would attempt to withdraw loan proceeds without my further consent. I called FAFSA and they told me that I had to speak to the institution which begs the question, what do you do when their practices are nefarious and predatory? I find it interesting that A.J. was so aggressive by calling me several times a day to enroll at Devry and once I started the first course that he enrolled me in late and promised he would call the next day to check to see how I was doing all of a sudden wasn't available, didn't return my calls and when he did accidentally pick up the phone and discovered it was me would hang up on me and later claimed that they were having problems with their phones. We never had a problem connecting prior to my enrollment and he would actually call me several times a day. I am sure he is too busy concentrating on his next victims to be bothered with me.

Lol... You're Soooo Scary

Let me start by mentioning that faux intimidation does not work!
How about this: focus on rectifing what are obviously unethical & unprofessional work skills, rather than trying to mend a bruised ego! None of this changes the FACTS of Mr. Fallico's actions! Which leads to the next more important point.
[Someone] keeps alluding to the statements in this report as "libel;" just an FYI: li-bel (can be a noun or verb) is defamation by written or printed words, pics, or any form other than by spoken words or gestures. Now that you have the CORRECT definition, let's use it in a sentence: The Statements made in this report cannot be "libel" since the student discusses "factual" events that happened as a result of AJ Fallico's lack of professionalism & skill.
It is "factual" that Mr. Fallico enrolled his student into class 3 days after the start of class; it is "factual" that Mr. Fallico enrolled the student knowing one cannot use FA at 2 different schools; it is "factual" that Mr. Fallico contacted the student several times before applying, and then "disappeared" after the student started class. Why else would the student mention specific circumstances that are familiar practices in this industry?!
As for the arbitration & digital forensics threat, If [you] have what you need, then PROVE IT!!!! There's no need for some official unveiling on anything or anyone, right? More importantly, find something to do!!! As mentioned earlier, it does not change the type of unfortunate person AJ Fallico has shown himself to be... No libel there... Just pure FACT!

S.B. is absolutely correct! The advisor in question not only acted nefariously, but was also extremely unethical! It's a colossal disappointment that this advisor has recently been promoted to a management position, which is quite telling about the university!
Unfortunately, Mr. Fallico personifies the corporate american way of moving up: kiss (somebody's) a*s (American very informal) to try too hard to please someone and to agree with everything they say, in a way which other people find unpleasant.
This appears to be the number one way to be "groomed" for a management-level position at the school. Never-mind the fact that Mr. Fallico's lack of proper student service is what led this former student to have to sue DeVry University. And the biggest insult of all is that he will be coaching and developing a team of advisors to work as unethically as he does! So sad!
Contrary to what some very unpopular people think, Mr. Fallico is a joke at DeVry University; even his "new" team has taken delight in several insults and predicting that his "lip-to-butt" syndrome is only going to last so long. The real truth in talent is getting your team to believe in your vision, implement, and execute. NOT!!!
I'm sad for S.B. because this former student is in the company of hundreds, if not, thousands of students (former and present) that are disgusted at their choice to attend DeVry University, simply because of the consist lack of FULL DISCLOSURE! Had Mr. Fallico been more interested in his student, rather than hitting a number (yes, it's sales!!!), then maybe S.B. would still be working towards degree completion right now.
One thing's for sure S.B., Mr. Fallico owes you quite a bit since your "login" probably contributed to Mr. Fallico hitting his number. But you can't completely fault Fallico; he is being lead by a complete idiot, and since he clearly has no problem following leadership of the utmost stupid proportion, what can you expect?
Love that you named the culprit! He deserves to be outted! Maybe one day DeVry University will actually put the student first, rather than just saying it, and ensure there are competent, professional, ethical advisors, and managers alike, helping prospective graduates!
All the best, S.B. Lobbying for the student!

After filing paperwork in small claims court and collecting the necessary documentation to substantiate our case Devry is finally making an effort to correct the billing issue.
Based on their tuition policies they concluded that they could not charge us for the tuition given that I requested to withdraw from the course the first day and Devry's policy is to give a 100% tuition refund. They do, however, have a policy of charging $150 for technology fees for books once the class has been accessed. Their office has assured us that the other fees will be withdrawn and we should have the matter resolved within 30 days.
It is unfortunate that the situation had to escalate to receive a satisfactory resolution as I tried to resolve the issue amicably with them first but hopefully the fees will be cleared as promised and no further actions will need to be pursued.

This is a report accessed by anyone who has internet access. When you include individuals that are agents of corporations this could lead to legal action against you. The legal term for this is libel because it is written and published.
Libel or defamation is a serious Tort. If another interested party has direct and contradictory evidence in your published report you could incur severe penalties. If you file a report you should make sure it is 100% truthful because once it is published in a public forum you can never fully retract the initial publishing. Especially against a direct agent of a corporation or individual who has evidence to the contrary.
