I was researching online education options in the hotel management field when Devry's ads popped up. I asked for additional info. and shortly after that starting receiving emails from a Tracy Blake, student advisor I guess.

I was advised that the only way to truely get a cost estimate for my chosen degree was to follow her recommended steps. First, I had to get a financial aide pin from the website she told me to visit and then I had to submit an application fee, at the cost of $50.00.

I was told this fee was refundable if I chose not to submit my application for enrollment to their school. I guess she forgot to state the 3 days allowable period that was later mentioned to me by their admission's guy who handles the refunds.

Needless to say, I chose not to attend their online university and requested a refund, in an email, stating such. And of course this guy refused on the basis of their 3 day policy.

What a rip off!!!!

Opposite experience

I enrolled at DeVry in 2007 and had the exact opposite experience you've had Dawn. First off, the application fee and 3-day refund policy is on the very top of the page I signed and faxed in to begin with. That's a standard policy for virtual every contract these days, even at a state university I've enrolled with in the past.

I'd like to ask if you could review the form you signed starting your application process. I'm willing to guarantee that you may have missed the agreement others here have also pointed out already.

The advisor's who contacted me went way out of their way to answer all of my questions and even called me back to find answers to questions they couldn't answer. My $50 application fee was even waived after I agreed to enroll. I received a $100 gift certificate later that month as well and was told I would receive similar rewards for helping refer any other people who get accepted into DeVry. The enrollment, guidance, and even financial advisor's at this school seem almost like my best friends whenever I call them up needing anything. Plus the professors are all top notch. I'm really shocked and saddened you had that bad experience. If you're still looking for a good school I'm willing to try to have the people I've talked with at DeVry contact you instead of whomever gave you that bad taste.

I went through the interview as well. The $50 you paid was an application fee to the school. I was given a "Notice of Cancellation" as part of the documentation sent to me and it clearly stated I had 5 business days to cancel and get a refund.
I was told that I needed a transfer credit evaluation and to complete a FAFSA to find out my total investment and out of pocket expense-this was true. After I completed the process, my financial planner emailed me a full worksheet of my cost and financing which was determined by my FAFSA.

You are either very confused or just angry because you have buyer's remorse and are making dishonest statements to make yourself feel better.

If you have your EFC after filing your FAFSA, DeVry will still only give you an "estimate" of the aid you may receive. They have not given me a correct disbursement amount in the 3 years I have been a student there.

The FAFSA is a Federal program, not a DeVry program. If you go to the wrong website, THOSE scammers will charge you. The correct website is http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/

It has nothing to do with DeVry.

DeVry tution cost clearly stated on web site

DeVry.edu states the tution cost on their website:

Go to devry.edu, click on Financial Aid, then click on "Your Cost". Select the campus you wish to attend (it includes online campus) and a window will pop up with the cost per credit hour for each degree program.

In the future, I would recommend reading all of the fine print before submitting any application. The application should have stated that the application fee was non-refundable after 3 days. If you paid by credit card, maybe you can submit a dispute to the credit card company.

Just because someone tells you something you should not blindly believe them. Always read the fine print. Or, ask for the refund policy in writing if one is not provided to you.

You've learned a valuable life lesson for $50. Hopefully it will save you much more than that in the future!
