Durakraft Construction Ronald Kraft II Take the Money and Run, Internet

I met Ronald Kraft II of Clinton Township in Feb 2009 through another wood worker. Ron was down on his luck (unemployed) and sounded like he needed some help, so I asked him to look at a kitchen project at my house. He and his 19 yr old pregnant wife stopped and he agreed to do the work for $1,000. He started the following week. Showed up late, started tearing the kitchen apart, then decided he needed more money for material, $1,200 which we wrote a check for.  That's when the problems started.

Ron decided he had other activities to work on.  My wife was there every day since it was during her winter break. He showed up for about 12 hours of a 40 hour week and then stopped coming at all.  Wouldn't return phone calls, but had a lot of excuses on Instant messages.  He finally says he needs 5,600 to complete the job.  I asked him to stop over to discuss, but he does a drive by and drops off the estimate/contract in my mail box.  I immediately called and told him that it was unexceptable.  I told him to provide the 1,200 of material or the money back for the work not done and I'd just write off the 1,000 labor I gave him cash for, after much discussions about that, he agreed, but the check never came (big surprise); I followed up a few times, but realized I had been scammed trying to do a nice thing to help a guy out.

After I said I'd not pay more money, he made a lot of threats similar to other reports I've read on this guy about liens and going to the police.  Long story short. I was out $2,200 and had my kitchen torn about, which I obviously had to get someone else to do the desired work. 

Ron lies, does not have a construction license, nor any ethical values. I strongly suggest anyone needing work down, look for alternative sources for help.
