Furniture Direct appear to be a spoof company. They appear genuine and have delightful sales staff (some of them anyway).

Having recently purchasing property abroad, Furniture Direct cold-called me stating that they were moving into the country where I had just bought a property. Where they got my telephone number from I don't know. I went through all the loops, got recommendations from other companies like Ready Rental Properties and was suitably satisfied enough to place an order for furniture.

The deposit was paid and full payment was made when the property was ready for furnishing. They were late in the original installation date, late for the subsequent installation(s) and have missed every installation schedule and continued to promise almost immediate installation. Every promise has been shattered.

Now, Furniture Direct have ceased responding to any e-mails, their phone lines have been disconnected bar one number which used to be answered but now is only an answering machine with no indication of any company relating to the message prompt. The message bank is full and therefore it is not possible to leave a message even if you wanted to.

You may be thinking that this could just be a mix up. Yes, I agree - but; the company disappears after changing offices with no new address, e-mails from other companies come out clearly stating "DO NOT USE THESE COMPANIES" of which Furniture Direct is at the very top of the list, the phones are either disconnected or unanswered, the voicemail is full so you can't even ask someone to get back to you - which means no-one is dealing with the messages left anyway, all this on top of the fact that they are SIX MONTHS late with the original date of furniture installation leaving me with a property which I am unable to rent because I have no furniture. I hope I am wrong but something is definitely not right here...

I am left with the decision of; do I risk waiting, hoping they are just a terrible company that takes over half a year to do as they say or, do I cut my losses and get another company and pay all over again? My advice, make sure everyone knows that Furniture Direct Worldwide fails to deliver, despite their appearance. Avoid them like the plague.
