I worked for Gaughan companies as a resident manager for just under three years with an outstanding work performance that I kept records of. There were several occasions where I was asked to do much more than I would get paid for, but did it because the consiquence for not would be losing my families home. The list of unacceptable behavior by upper management, particularly Pamela Pittman and Julie LaFreneire who were both fired with in weeks of my termination, is an endless one.
I was terminated the day after my disabled wife was released (on a Sunday) from the hospital with a serious illness and told that my work quality was unsatisfactory and I had some how failed to follow instructions even though my previous monthly inspection said everything I was doing was satisfactory. This was on 1-11-05. We were told my duties would be terminated as of and that we had to move by 1-31-05 OR pay for February rent and be able to stay in the appartment. As in the job description packet for resident managers it clearly states "employment may be terminated by either employer or employee at any time with or without notice and/or with or without cause." We agreed to be out by 1-31-05.
We moved into our new home on January 31st, 05. Our apartment was cleaned, disinfected, and entirely empty of our belongings. Our garage was completely vacant of our belongings also, and was cleaned of any debris or dirt. We were very careful about this because we watched this company overcharge people just because they felt like it all the time. Rules there changed daily depending on who you talked to.
Julie Lafreneire was called on several occasions between the 31st of January in the AM and the fourth of Feb and asked if she could come and do our check-out. We have phone records to show that we tried to get her to come do her paperwork several times. She responded "I'm just too swamped today, call me about it tomorrow." This went on for five days. Rules there changed daily depending on who you talked to.
We later, on the 18th of Feb. 05 received a letter stating that charges were still being estimated on the over seven year old worn out carpet cleaning and damages. We disputed this because the new tenants could not legally move in until the carpet had been cleaned and they were in as soon as they got the job 2 days after we were finally able to do our check-out. We then received another letter stating that our security deposit was not enough to pay for charges and February rent. Now just yesterday we received a packet of papers stating their rebutle, and included in it are leters about supposed verbal agreements I (didn't make)made with Julie Lafreneire concerning extending our residency through February. They also sent me a copy of my altered check out form.
Their claim is that we wanted to live there through February even though we had a home lined up to move into and our new landlord had already called her to ask about our rental history~ she told him we were excellent renters.
In the packet we received yesterday there was a brand new charge all of the sudden added for the removal of a vehicle in their parking lot last winter that was not even ours.
I will always ask from now on before I do business with anyone in MN if they are affiliated in ANY way with Gaughan Companies and will advise others to do the same.

#7 UPDATE EX-employee responds
Don't speak of what you don't know!
AUTHOR: Melissa - (U.S.A.)

I am glad to see that Gaughan Companies has the support of their residents as well ~ thank you for speaking up!
As far as Rick and Amie's comment about me being on the "verg of a nervous breakdown because of the work load" and that is why my husband and I left, is a flat out lie! We left for personal family reasons. And I am not saying that Gaughan Companies is a wonderful place to work for just because my husband still chooses to work for them, I say it because it is true!
You, Rick and Amie, may have a beef with Gaughan Companies but that does not give you the right to slander it's employees or ex-employees for speaking up!
Thank you again to the residents for standing up and speaking out against the lies and slander!
FYI~ As far as the company name chage, it has been changed back to it's orginal name given by the founder of Gaughan Companies.

Owners got a heads-up and proved it by making changes

Hello all! So glad to see that some one looks at this sight!
I have documentation of every thing I told about here, and more. I have copies of ALL of my paperwork that is stamped for the day it was faxed. The originals were left organized and easily accessible for the company. There is no reason for me to tell you why I had to make copies of everything I turned in, if you have dealt with this company in the past you know why.
I do not have to defend myself to those that responded here, for Melissa was on the verge of a nervous breakdown when she left saying that it was because of the work load. Most managers get burned out at this job, understandable, but don't turn around and say they are a wonderful company because your husband still has to work for them. Or do what you will, everything that goes around comes around and you know that.
Satisfactory monthly inspections were taken from all managers, and all of us were told by our inspectors that it was NOT because of the work performed, but rather because of the vacancy rate and the cost to the company for the $40.00 a month bonus. I did not, and still do not understand what that was all about.
I was put on probation, and told about it three days before I was told "Pam wanted me gone regardless". My Wife was in the hospital half dead, the grounds and the building were in good condition all but the outstanding work orders I had submitted to have done such as tile work and mold clean up. I was more concerned with the health issue we were dealing with at the time.
There were several apartments in the building I worked in that were not remedied as far as mold growing in them, two of which had elderly residents on oxygen living in them. Perhaps someone might take the initiative to fix the problem before these people get more sick because of it. It is growing in the walls down the entire length from 207 to 107 (Kills was sprayed on the surface by maintenance) and from 306 to 206 to 106. There are outstanding work orders on this, and copies floating around including in my records.
When you have supervisors announcing in meetings that you are to never use words such as mold, and proceed to give you alternative words you are to use instead "even if you know it is mold" it might say there could be a problem. Or, when you, and all other managers are told to not contact the owner "under any circumstances that have to do with the properties", you kind of have to wonder why they would not want to know what is going on, especially when there is no one else answering the phone. Of course this changed and the person responsible for making these rules was fired. I can not blame the owners, for they have been deceived. I do know that there is new management in place due to all of the deception that was being passed around there.
There are so many things this company has worked very hard to cover up, for instance...Why would a company change its name in the slightest way every two to three years like clockwork? (ie; Gaughan Companies, Gaughan Properties, Gaughan enterprises, etc)
As far as my personal issue with what was done to us, there are stacks of documentation proving their wrongdoing. And good to us? When? They knew we had no alternative at the time due to life changes and they took full advantage of it. Look up who was asked to do anything extra for the village first, and look up who usually did it.
So I will go on to say that via word of mouth I have heard that there are major changes taking place within Gaughan, I think it was a very intelligent move on the part of the owners and I hope that now you might have the freedom to know what is really going on in the company you have worked so hard to make successful.
As for T- I know where I go after all of this and dishonest people don't go there. Praise the lord for that!

Gaughan Companies is a GREAT COMPANY! Ludicrous ramblings in the vindictive post against Gaughan Companies

I am a resident at one of the buildings in Gaughan Companies apartment complex in Forest Lake where Rick L. & Amie G. worked and resided. I was told about this post by a fellow resident, and want go on record to refute statements made by Rick and Amie about Gaughan Companies in their post.
Gaughan has, and continues to, provide my family a beautiful apartment home at a price that is very reasonable! We are also very happy with our new RESPONSIVE & RESPONSIBLE caretakers and managers. My family is very pleased to have Gaughan Companies as our landlord, and would recommend them to everyone!! We love living here!
The unacceptable behavior Rick & Amie speak of in their one-sided post should not be blamed on Gaughan Companies, but is really due to the lack of job performance by themselves. They were not good caretakers so they were let go. Their post about Gaughan Companies is libelous, childish, and basically full of outlandish accusations which hold no merit and lack credibility.

A Note to Rick & Amie:
How in the world did you work for Gaughan Companies for just under three years if they were so awful and dishonest? I would be ashamed of your post if I were you guys, and you should take a look in the mirror before calling anyone else a liar or labeling them corrupt.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but you were put on probation for lack of performance before your dismissal. I see you forgot to mention that in your post. Now, as disgruntled ex-employee(s) who were given several chances before being let go, you chose to defame Gaughan Companies instead of admitting to your own faults.
I can't believe you would be this hurtful and malicious towards a company that was so good to you. I am disappointed by your attempt to discolor the reputation of Gaughan Companies, but YOU Rick & Amie, are ultimately the ones that have to live with YOUR DISHONESTY.

Gaughan Companies~ Who's being dishonest here!
AUTHOR: Melissa - (U.S.A.)

My husband and I are former resident managers of Gaughan Companies, and my husband is still a Maintenance Tech. with the company. We were resident managers for 4 years, and my husband is going into his 7th year as Maintenance Tech.
Gauhgan Companies is a hard working and dedicated
company. They expect the same from their employees.
Being a resident manager is hard work! It is not a free ride, like some people think. When you work for a company you are representing that company. Clean buildings and grounds, clean vacant apartments, organized paperwork, fast and professional (and friendly) response to residents and their concerns are just a few of the ways Gaughan Companies expects their employees to represent them as resident managers.
"Satisfactory" does not mean excellent work. It means that you are doing the bare minimum of what is required for you to do your job.
Rick and Amie were not the best resident managers and took their responsibilities lightly. Vacant apartments were not cleaned or ready for new move-ins, paperwork was not done or handed in in a timely manner, residents maintenance requests were not filed, the building and grounds were not cleaned and kept free of debris ~ they did the bare minimum,if that!
Gaughan Companies is an excellent employer and I have never worked for a more ethical, moral and honest man!
FYI~ Gaughan Companies is not the reason we resigned as resident managers, it was hard work as I have already stated above. We resigned for family reasons.
If you are not afraid of hard work and like the qualities of a loyal, devoted, ethical, and fair company (to it's residents and employees) than Gauhgan Company is the right place!
