I moved into my new home built by Richmond American 14 months ago. Richmond American puts GE appliances in all their kitchens. My GE gas range stopped working last week, and knowing Richmond only gives us one year to report all problems with the house I called GE directly. GE told me the range is only warranted for one year! I have owned it for 14 months!
Well, they told me there would be a charge to come out and fix it so I made an appointment. The repair guy came to my home and took my oven apart. I was expecting to pay fifty dollars plus or minus ten dollars or so, even though at 14 months old I felt I should pay nothing. The repair guy told me I needed a new gas ignitor. He told me the total charge would be $211.00 to repair my oven!!!!
I blew up and told him to leave my house! He then had the gall to tell me he needed to collect $54.00 for diagnosing my range. I told him this oven is barely more than a year old and I am not paying him a dime. After he left I called GE customer care and the best they could offer is $25.00 off the $150.00 labor charge. I told them to forget it I would never buy a GE product again.

#1 Consumer Suggestion
Read your owners manual in regards to your warranty

Stated in EVERY owners manual are the terms of product warranies. One year parts and labor means one year, not 14 months. Better quality appliances come w/ more extensive warranties but one year on labor is an industry standard.
As far as you refusing to pay the technician for his time, YOU SIR ARE WRONG! This man did not manufacture, install or sell you the appliance, he was simply doing his job and you beat him out of his hard earned money.
These waranties give you specific legal rights, and this does not include the right to abuse the appliance tech. simply trying to earn an HONEST buck.
You called the man to your home to repair your appliance knowing you had a one year parts and labor warranty, G.E. does not reimburse this man his time or parts OUT of warranty. Want better warranty?; BUY A BETTER QUALITY APPLIANCE
