I purchased one of the most expensive sets of tires available from Goodyear at their corporate store in Lake Oswego, Oregon on Nov. 11, 2009. I sent the rebate info i immediately by Priority Mail with delivery confirmation. The delivery was confirmed. I began calling the last week of December and was told that "it must be downstairs; it is not in the system yet." I was told that they were working on the 22nd of November rebates and mine was probably not received before then. So, I waited another 10 days and called back. I was told the exact same thing; that it was not in the system yet. So, I called again today, January 19, 2010 nine weeks from when I sent it in. I was once again told that it was not in the system, and they were working on rebates received on November 18th. What? They were working on rebates at the end of November that were received on 11/22 and now, almost three weeks later they are working on rebates received 3 days earlier on 11/18?
Now, when I get blatently lied to I have to assume that I have been scammed. Granted, the rebate is only $40 but I was also told today to be patient, that they are processing around 30,000 rebates. Oh, I thought, now I get it; $40 rebate times 30,000 equals $1,200,000. Quite a chunk of change with quite a substantial amount of interest being made on other peoples money. The incredible thing is that they are still offering these rebates!
By comparison, I bought a Droid cell phone with a $100 rebate from (((competitor's name redacted))) on Dec 27, 2009 and guess what; I received my $100 rebate from them last Saturday January 16, 2010. It took them less than three weeks to get it to me. Now I have to guess there are way more people buying cell phones than tires; especially at Christmas.
I think this is an issue for the FTC and/or class-action legal action. But who is actually going to spend the time and money to deal with that? That is precisely what Goodyear understands and is counting on.
So, three cheers for the Legitimate Rebate Program at (((redacted))) and THREE BOOS for Goodyear Tire and their rebate rip-off scheme.
sorry, allowing you to give a competitors name would instigate others to just file against their competition, to only come back later to suggest their company, ..plus, if you post a competitors name more than likely they will show up on search engines as a Rip-off! - - your comments on this policy are welcome.
