Our 6 year old Samsung plasma 52" television started turning on/off all by itself, and also scrolling through the menu. I googled television repair near Hagerstown and first on Googles search was Hi-Tech Repairs Inc. I went to their website and seen that they serviced DC, Virginia & Maryland areas, so my husband called. He spoke to a repair person and went over the make, model number and the problems we were experiencing. This repair person claimed he knew exactly what the problem was, that it was a voltage/power supply problem and needed to be replaced; that its a common problem and that he had part. My husband then told this person where we lived and scheduled an appointment the next day. We were told that the repair was going to be $300.00 and that the $50.00 diagnosis fee would be deducted from repair cost. The tech arrived and looked at the tv, removed the back cover and was dumb-founded....he stated that he thought it was an LCD tv, not a plasma and that the problem he was sure it was the day before is wrong (which at that time, my husband reminded him that he HAD told him that it WAS a Samsung plasma, and he WAS given the model number and WAS told the problem we were experiencing). The tech asked us to tell him AGAIN what the problem was...asked if we had internet and then used my personal computer to access a site to find a cure. This is where my husband and I became suspicious. The tech then started his fast-talk sales-pitch as he glanced into the back of the television. He states that he has SEEN what the problem is and is positive that he can fix it. He brags that once he understood what the exact problem was, he knew where to look and for $150.00 he would SHOW US. He said that we were already going to spend $300.00 so we were getting a deal for $150.00 plus he would waive the diagnosis fee (which on the web-site it states this if a repair is done); we relunctantly agreed. It was like a magic act...On the side of tv where the buttons are to adjust volume, access the menu, ect. a WIRE was grounding out because the plastic coating had pulled away....the fix was ---->HE MOVED A WIRE NOT EVEN 1/16 OF AN INCH!! At this point, we just wanted this over. Once he had the money he could not get out of here fast enough and left no receipt! I called this supposed technician on his cell, no answer (imagine that) and left a message requesting that he please return my call, that he failed to provide us with us a receipt. Here it is 3 days later and we have yet to hear from him or his company. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! BAD COMPANY PRACTICES! $150.00 to move a wire! A company that is based in customer service and relies on repeat business would NEVER say "..for $150.00 I will show you what the problem is" and smirk as he says it. By trade, I am an autobody collision estimator, can you imagine me looking at your car and then saying "for $150.00, I will tell you whats wrong with your car."? We expected to pay something but the amount he charged just to move a wire was EXCESSIVE and he was rude.
