IDT Old phone number billed to new account New Jersey

I switched from BellSouth to IDT to get the cheap phone line for web surfing since I had my cell phone with free long distance.

I called IDT and the saleperson said I had another number in their system. I told him I used IDT years before at another address but that my current number is the only number that should be on the account.

My bill comes and it shows both numbers on the bill. I call and tell them this account shouldn't be on my bill and to cancel it. They tell me that the line is still active; calls are being made on the line. Yeah, but I don't live at that address and I wouldn't be paying for two residential phone numbers. I am told to call BellSouth to see what name the number is being billed to.

BellSouth confirmed that the line was in someone else's name. I told IDT this and they said they had to pull the tape of my conversation setting up the account. I had to wait 10 days.

I called 12 days later and the tape was "lost" but if I paid the full balance, they would send me a check within 30 days for the other telephone number. I pay for one months' service of both telephone numbers.

30 days, no check. I called again and was told I'd had to get written confirmation from BellSouth that the line wasn't mine. I asked her why wasn't this told to me 3 months ago? All I heard was click.

I immediately call back and tell my story for the 10th time and she said there was a problem but she corrected it and a credit should appear on my next statement. Next statement, no credit. Call back last time to check on the credit and it was DENIED. No reason was given for the denial.

So, I'm paying off the $49 as slowly as I can. I will never go near IDT services again.
