ILD Billed through Verizon for services not requested. It is astonishing that such behavior requires consumer complaints and not simply criminal prosecution for fraud. That Verizon allows it at all without separate confirmation by their customer is astonishing. Joe Blow sends a bill to Verizon and says bill to Bob Jones IV's account? AND THEY DO IT?
It is clear that they are looking for people who do not carefully review their bills, but the onus should be on the billing service, not the customer, and at least partially on the primary carrier for allowing unconfirmed bills to be submitted through their billing service.
Verizon told me today that third-party billing could be blocked, but the confirmation process simply referred to Verizon as the "preferred provider", so I will await the appearance of a third party bill in future. Their sad tale of someone in the hospital with bedside phone service's being billed to Verizon so the hospital was not charging the patient seems a fob-off, and their further assertion that third-party billing was either on or off seems a self-serving disservice to their customers.

Third-party billing process at Verizon
AUTHOR: xaxx - (U.S.A.)

Apparently, and based on only a random small sample, 4/5 Verizon customer service agents don't know what they're doing in blocking 3d party billing. The process I mentioned yesterday did not get the job done. It did, however, trigger a robo-call from Verizon that someone was trying to change my billing address and when I called this AM and fixed that, I found that all that needed to block 3d party billing is hitting a check-box. No recorded conversation with an independent verification service was required, and more than that, I wasted my time yesterday.
Third party block is a simple check-box. Insist on it. It takes 30 seconds when you have the right agent on the phone, as I finally did this AM. 1/5 is not a good ratio, but it's way better than 0/4.
