I donated my vehicle to Kars-4-Kids because I needed to get rid of that vehicle. It was costing me too much money and I really did not need it any longer. I also decided it would benefit me as I would get a tax write-off. I had the car valued at about 3,500.00 used resale value.

After the transaction was done I received the travel voucher (another scam) but no receipt. I contacted the person (by email since they would not return any of my calls) that origionally contacted me (by email). I asked for them to send me a receipt from the actual sale of the vehicle. I was told that I could use the emailed confirmation as my receipt. I explained that the confirmation would only get me a $500.00 tax write-off therefore I needed the receipt for the acutal sale.

After several back and forth emails - all of them refusing to acknowledge that the vehicle sold for more than $500.00 - I finally sent a very scathing email telling them what a scam they are I got back this response "It was sold for $300". I still insisted on a receipt and to this day never got one. I do not understand why they refuse to give me a receipt for the sale of the vehicle. Something really smells about all of this and I honestly believe they are lying to me.

I still have all the communications from them should any one be interested in them.

Also - that travel voucher is just one more of this organizations scams. I have spent hours trying to get my "free" vacation. I have given up since there is very little chance I will get any one of the six places I picked from.

I can not tell you how disappointing it has been to deal with this so called charitable organization. I wish I would have do my research up front - from all the complaints about this organization I would have never done business with them. Giving to charity is supposed to feel good. Nothing about dealing with them felt good.

DO NOT DONATE TO THIS ORGANIZATION - there are so many other much worthy charities1

I would have to agree with the author as I had the exact same experience.

I donated my truck at the end of 2012 and received the $500 tax donation receipt dated 12/27 prior to anyone ever seeing the vehicle.  The car was picked up ~ 1/3/13.  I too wanted a chain of custody to understand how the vehicle transferred hands and was told that this would be very difficult to obtain.  I scratched my head at that one.  If this charity was on the up and up I figured the paperwork would be there.

I too valued my vehicle for well more than $500.  The tires alone were worth that much!!  But to this day, I have no idea as to what my vehicle sold for.

I find there website to be misleading and I believe that is deliberate.  Here is a quote from it -

The IRS allows you to claim a tax deduction of:

a) The value of your vehicle up to $500. It is up to the donor to determine the fair market value.
b) The amount we sell your vehicle for - if it is more than $500.

I have to ask - has anyone ever received a receipt from these guys for a vehicle sold for more than $500?

My gut tells me that something is amiss with this organization.  If you have a junker that you want to get rid of, but all means use them.  But if you have a vehicle that you think is worth more than $500, beware, beware, beware.

I agree with the author below and think it best that you just avoid dealing with this organization.  There are many other valid charities out there that are much easier to work with.
