We chose to donate our car to Kars 4 Kids in early 1995. It was towed away in January. In September of 2005, my husband got a notice to appear in court in a town an hour away from our home, because the car we donated was abandoned and still registered to my husband. Kars for Kids stated on their web site that once they took possession of the car, they took responsibility for the car. WRONG! Kars 4 Kids wanted nothing to do with us.
Multiple phone calls were made to get Kars 4 Kids to make things right. We ended up having to go to court and spend a whole day straightening this out. Thankfully we swtill had the paper that showed we surrendered the plates and were able to prove we no longer owned the car. Apparently K4K sold the car to someone who never bothered to transfer the title, so the title still showed my husband as the owner. Thank God the car was not involved in an accident or was used in committing a crime and still registered to us. This was a mess, and cost us a day off from work.
Word to the wise: never donate a car to Kars 4 Kids.

I apologize for the difficulties you encountered in straightening out this mix-up. However, Kars 4 Kids did follow the correct procedures for selling your car. Kars4Kids uses a number of auction companies to auction off our donated cars. This auction company sells hundreds of cars and transfers all the titles, but for some unintentional reason, your title was not properly transferred to the new owner.
Overall, Kars 4 Kids provides the services promised in a timely manner. We work to ensure a smooth experience for our donors, and step in to help if there are ever any problems. Our many satisfied donors demonstrate our reliable service. We minimize our expenses and maximize on our proceeds to help as many children as possible.
