I got to orientation and I was told, "You're going to be selling Kirby vacuum cleaners." I said, you said I was doing office work! I even asked you in the interview if this involved selling and you said no!

Then the boss, Johnathon, said, "Oh, you just *demonstrate* the vacuums. You don't go door to door selling them!" I thought, okay, at least I'll try it. If I leave now, I won't have a job and how will I pay the bills? So I sat through three boring days of orientation.

Then I was told, "You ARE going door to door! But this weekend, you're going to 'practice' selling to your friends and family." The boss gave us papers telling us what to say. The paper was a lie. It said that I was giving complimentary carpet cleaning for an appliance company. I couldn't lie like that, so I just told my friends that Kirby wanted me to practice selling to them, but it was only practice.

It turns out that Johnathon wanted me to actually sell to my friends, and if I didn't sell, I wouldn't get paid for training. What the HELL? I came back the next day and I was told that I MUST use sales tactics like throwing the person's old vacuum cleaner out the door, targeting old people and blacks, lying, that sort of thing. If I was told that "I don't want it," I wasn't supposed to take no for an answer.

And then Johnathon said, "If you don't do 60 demonstrations a month, you don't get a pay check at all."

I thought, "What have I gotten myself into?" I went to an old lady's house. I didn't throw her vacuum out or lie or any of that junk they wanted me to do. She had a walker and her son was a quadriplegic because he had been in a car wreck. I got halfway through the demonstration and stopped. I couldn't do it. I called my boss and said that she didn't want the vacuum and explain the lady's situation to him. Johnathon wanted me to make her buy the vacuum cleaner. I quit. I quit the job. I couldn't do it.

Sounds to me like, as far as employers go, Kirby is the scum of the earth. May the fleas of a thousand camels infest their armpits !

Nice Job

AUTHOR: William - (U.S.A.)

I also went through the interview process for a company called "LWA Enterprises" I was never told I would be selling Kirby Products, or selling products at all. After replying to the ad, I was told it was an office job with no sales / cold-calling. Even in the interview, after I had asked, I was told the same.

I went through 4 days of their 'so called' training. We were shown the owners various vehicles and other monetary items. We were never told that we were to be selling Kirby Vacuums until the 5th day when they were handed out and taken to be shown to our family and friends.

Being new to the Tuscaloosa area, I have no family, and very few friends. (My friends would be unable to purchase a $2,000 vacuum). I voiced my concerns, and was told by 'Management' they would make appointments for me. I received no further contact and was later asked to return my vacuum. Once I arrived to the office, I was given a pre-made form that stated I held 'LWA Enterprises' to no legal nobility, or I would be charged $2,200 for the vacuum they had given me. I soon left with the vacuum and went back to my home to create my own documentation that stated I returned the vacuum cleaner only and had it notarized. I returned the vacuum in exchange of them signing my form and filed a complaint with the Chamber of Commerce and BBB. We were told training would be paid, however I received no payment.

It's bad enough that I'm a struggling artist and college student, but I don't have the time to have to deal with this garbage.
