I went to labcorp on 5/8/09 to take my glucose test for pregnancy and was on a limited timeframe due to the nature of the test. I walked into the office and handed the clerk my dr. forms and my insurance card. The clerk told me he also needed my credit card informations. When I asked him what the credit card was for he said they keep that on file so when they get the bill from the insurance they can just "bill" my credit card. I asked the clerk if I could get a receipt for the amount they will be charging me today and he stated he would not be charging my credit card today he will be billing it at a later date and I would find out when I receive the receipt in the mail. I told him I do not feel comfortable handing out my credit card information and continued on to say if they could give me a receipt of how much I will be charged for todays service I will give him my number. As he continued to state he just wanted to write the number down and file it with my information he handed me the new "Credit Authorization Program" and insisted it was a corprorate mandate now. At that point I, again, told him I get billed through my insurance company and had never heard of this "policy" As I said that he gave me my forms back and told me if you don't trust me then I am going to refuse your service. I immedialtly contacted my dr. and my insurance company to find out if this is a true "agreement" and either one of the had ever heard of this policy. I filed a complaint with labcorp corporate who insisted this was a miscommunication and the manager would be calling me back for a "formal apology" but by this time I had already spend 2 hours waiting and it was too late for me to get my glucose screening. I will now have to go to another "wonderful" labcorp first thing in the morning for the screening that should have taken 5 minutes to complete.

LabCorp unethical practices

I realize your complaint was a couple years ago and the LabCorps employee response was well over a year ago, but I just had a similar experience with LabCorp in Odessa, TX.
I have insurance that has always paid 100% of my labwork if I pay my copay at the doctors office, so I went to our local LabCorp Tuesday morning to have blood work done.
The lady (manager) there insisted that before they could do my labwork, they had to have a credit or debit card on file (just in case my insurance didn't pay 100%). I told her if my insurance didn't pay 100%, they could bill me, but she kept insisting that it was company policy and they HAD to have a card on file.
Against my better judgement, I gave her my debit card and she made a photocopy of it. I asked her if they would let me know how much they were going to debit and she told me they would notify me by mail "AFTER" the debit was made...and she could not give me any kind of time frame...She told me the charges for my labwork was going to be $575.00 and anything the insurance didn't pay, they would take from my bank account. It could be a week or 2 months....she refused to give me a time frame....
I got very angry and told her that I thought a lawyer and the Better Business Bureau might be interested in their "UNETHICAL" business practices and I guess I was louder than I should have been with other patients in the building.
The girl drawing my blood brought me back a paper saying they would not bill my card and they would just send me a bill if there was a balance owed.
They could have done that to begin with.
Unethical all the way.
When I was googling Labcorp complaints, I ran across their Code of Business Ethics and had to laugh because their actual business practices go completely against their own Code.
I hope someone sues the crap out of them and puts them out of business.
