Lenoxx Electronics Corp. (Durabrand) Dangerous DVD Player Carteret New Jersey

Last night, our Durabrand DVD player started popping, crackling, and finally smoking! I managed to get it unplugged before it actually caught on fire but the living room was full of smoke and it smelled awful.

We have had the player for quite a while, probably a year or more and haven't had any major issues until this. (Sometimes it wouldn't read a disc or would make a squeaky noise when it played) The scary thing is that this happened in the middle of the night while everyone was sleeping. My daughter had put a movie in and fallen asleep on the couch watching it. Thankfully the popping noise woke her up and she came and got me.

This could have turned out much worse and I am thankful that our only loss was our DVD player.

I would like this to serve as a warning to others though about the possibility of this happening. It's certainly not anything that I had ever worried about in the past, but now I can't help but look at my other electronics with some suspicion.
