I have a problem with my xbox 360 console. It has a problem with the tray. When I put a disk in, it sounded like a loud scratching noise and when I hit eject, the disk came out scratched! Then when i try to close the tray, it just keeps re- opening. It Will NOT stay closed! even when i turn the power off it opens! I contacted support via phone and all they wanted to do was sell me a warrantee for $100. They were rude and were trying to make the problem sound like it was my fault. I paid $400+ for a console that malfunctioned against my control and since I am 32 days past my 1 yr. warrantee I have to pay $100 more to fix my machine?! I know I am not the only one with this problem, I read forums and there are many people with this same problem.
Why is the warrantee only extended (3yrs) for the ring of death problem and not this one? I refuse to pay for a warrantee extension when I had absolutely nothing to do with the console's problem. And they won't replace the $60 game the console ruined either! xbox has poor customer service and low quality products that they make a fortune off of! The least they could do is replace/ repair their product when it malfunctions.

I had same problem, minus the open tray thing, with a console 90 days old. Obviously a defect. from what I have read a VERY COMMON defect. Yet XBOX refuses to accept legal responsibility for damage to personal property(the $140 in destroyed games) and won't honor customer service promise to compensate. 2 of the games were less that 24 hours old. Game manufacturers want $20 each to replace. XBOX caused damage, xbox is responsible. Kid should get compensated for loss. I filed my own complaint on here. Please contact 48 hours and any other press agencies you can obtain information for. What we need is a national televised investigation into Microsoft and XBOX in particular.
