Before moving to another City (Wilmington to Raleigh) I asked a Gold Gym employee how do I transfer my current account to Raleigh. She told me that my current account is only active to 3 sites in Wilmington and not transferable to other cities and refered me to National Fitness Financial Systems to cancel the account in Wilmington and open one in Raleigh.
After moving I called NFFS and tried to cancel the account and was told to complete the process and was told that it by the first would be canceled no problem especially if I am to open an new account in Raleigh - but next month I was charged the normal fee (auto drafted from bank account).
I called again explained I was charged again and the account is still active, but I can't take advantage of the membership because I'm in another city now. And now the agent for NFFS informs me that I would need to send proof of relocation - only problem is that the rent contract was in the name of my wife and haven't received a bill from any utility yet (power, cable).
Next month I sent only had proof of relocation from one bill so far and faxed it to them (wrong fax number) not even a fax number and no confirmation
My wife has a fax at her work and tried the same number same result - called NFFS back and was given the same fax number and got communication between the machines, but no confirmation.
Next month after another draft from my account we were very short with the agent at NFFS and just wanted this resolved (at this point I'm not opening a membership with Gold's anymore). I was told the situation will be resolved (may just wanted us off the phone so the next agent can handle it next month was the impression we got) - right on que the membership fee was drafted out.
6 months after the move from Wilmington to Raleigh I'm just waiting until the membership runs out because its too much work to get this resolved (which is probably what they want to happen)

#2 UPDATE EX-employee responds
Make sure your contract ends!
AUTHOR: Ex Nffs Employee - (U.S.A.)

I'm an ex-employee of National Fitness Financial (NFFS). I'm not sure if you still have a contract with your gym but if you do and are still getting charged make sure that you read your contract and that it does not state anywhere (even in the fine print) that your contract will continue on a month to month basis at the end. I can't tell you how many times I have talked with someone who didn't know about that part of their contract and then find out months (even years) later that every single month they have been charged.
NFFS is not a bad company overall. They had/have some really stupid people working on the phones but if you really want to get out of your contract with the gym the best thing to do is to read your contract (mainly the back page). There are a lot of reason as to how and why you can cancle your membership early but each one of them is going to require some (possibly a lot) of effort on your part. Also make sure if you fax/email/mail anything to NFFS that they did receive the item (usually check back within a few days of sending it). I hope that everything works out for you.
