I really don't know much about this company, but I am aware of deceptive billing practices. My mother received one of the infamous sweepstakes entries and fell for the whole bit. We are always struggling with money and unfortunately she figured it couldn't hurt to enter.
I personally was unaware that she was doing this or I would have stopped her. She called and was pressured into buying magazines (and we don't even read magazines on a regular basis). During this conversation, she was told that she would not be billed until January and it would be in monthly installments.
However, a few days ago, I was checking on my mother's checking account to make sure she didn't overspend on Christmas shopping and found that she was overdrawn. There was a charge on her debit card for $89.44 from NME.
I questioned her about this and she couldn't believe that they had hit already. This was the first I was even aware of it. I checked again the next day, and she was hit with an overdraft fee of $140, putting her over $200 in the hole. Yesterday she was hit for a few more dollars for Passportoffun and Athomerewards, neither of which did she agree to.
I found this site last night, and informed her that there had been some shady reports about this company and that she had the other new charges. Today, she went to the bank and was able to cancel her debit card so there will be no new charges to her account, but she is out the 200+ dollars.
I just hope, after having read some of the reports, that they actually send her the magazines she has spent a fortune on (I truely have my doubts about that). Too bad there are companies out there that prey on the vulnerable. If I knew she had called, I would have investigated and told her not to. I just hope this helps someone else from making the same mistakes!

Don't stand for this

I am also a victim of this so called great deal thanks to my fiance signing up for it. When I called in several times to cancel this deal, I was unable to due to the "persistence" of the employees. When I called the last time, I said was going to report this to the Better Business Bureau, and the employee got all snippy and said you go ahead and do that. She said the BBB would support them seeing as I was trying to "scam" the company.
A few days after I filed the report, the refund was back into my bank account, safe and sound. I had only received 4 of the so called 11 magazines promised to me about 2 months in, none of the so called freebies, and whatever else they were trying to get to me. I only submitted one payment before I tried to cancel. Don't let this injustice happen to you, fight it, and report it.

Yes they are LEECHES

Dude at first I thought you couldn't spell LEECH. Then I saw your point. These clowns are leaching dollars from consumer's wallets. First they leach $1.29 per week (for hundreds of weeks)for the magazines and then they leach $9.95 per month for the crappy upsell. They are leeches that leach many hundreds from our wallets.
I got the pink mailer thing a few times and I will never call. I know of someone who signed up for all their crap including the travel upsell and they are very very sorry they ever called. They spent hundreds for nothing and the guy's wife is really really pxssxed off.
DON'T CALL

Complain loud enough and they will refund the overdraft charges. I have seen them do the refund. Complain in writing and copy the state attorney general. They are at fault for overdrawing the account and they know it.
Nothing seems to stop these leaches. They seem to lie and lie and lie and lie and there is no consequence for their business practices.
And after I post this some NME leach will put up a rebuttal about what a great deal the magazines are and how I am blindly bashing them.
As Judge Judy would say to them - BALONEY!
They are agressive predatory lying magazine sales leaches.
