Priceshuffle lured my husband to their website with the promise of signing up "It's FREE! AND you get 300 FREE bids!"  Well the way they set up the sign up page is VERY decieving.  When you sign up, you need to use a credit card - but the PURCHASE part is DEFAULTED to 300 bids for $149.75 - its not left blank, and its not anywhere near the "Submit" button.  So he goes and accidentally spends $150.

No big deal, right?  Wrong.  I call customer service and they have the NERVE to tell me, "We don't take complaints over the phone, you have to send an email."  Whereupon, I send a request for a refund.  The person I got a response from was actually responding to ANOTHER complaint and I was "cc'd".  When they finally pulled their heads out, they simply told me they would NOT refund my money, and to "Make up for it" they would provide me with more bids.

When I filed the complaint with my bank, it took 2 weeks for them to tell me my claim was denied, because Priceshuffle covered their butts in their Terms & Conditions.  They are a complete and utter FRAUD AND RIPOFF AND I WANT MY MONEY BACK!!!

Well that is good news for you at least..

..well somewhat. You did finally get a refund..but it was a hassle.

Yes we are in agreement that the way they work does not add up..I mean if you had a business and you really thought it was going to last for the long haul..would anyone with an ounce of business sense change the few things so many are complaining and unhappy about?

Well there is something I read about this type of scam. Now yes, they do issue refunds..but not at the rate they take in more suckers..and there are those that do not get a refund because they give up. Now..think of all that revenue in the bank...making interest? Could be millions for all we know. So..even if they refund a few members a week..they had that money for a while..and more is coming in. Plus what they make on the items..which can be 100's of percent markup.

I have stated before on this site, that in my opinion the business model is brilliant, however anyone who implements it has not an ounce of morals, ethics or decency. As well..I HIGHLY question the legality.not only of the lack of proper disclosure and deception..but the fact that it IS..no matter how you slice it..online gambling for prizes and bids (which are really no actual cash value virtual poker chips)...so how long will this be allowed? Not forever, that is for sure.

So..we have..
a fake deceptive news report
promise of "free"
deceptive sign up fee
no confirmation page
difficult refund policy, if at all for some
implied it is an auction but it is gambling

Well I guess I could go on..this is off the top of my head. amazing what you can get away with online..people MUST understand not to submit credit card account information out so easily just by the deception that they can get a good deal on a scam website and it is free to try out when it is far from it. And of course..these sites need to change how they get members and explain it is gambling and entertainment purposes ONLY and not like eBay.... or be shut down.

Ronnie -
Thank you for your response!  I couldn't agree with you more.  Sites like these are (I personally believe) designed to fool people into thinking they are getting something for free, or even to mislead others who are not internet savvy.

I think if PriceShuffle or any other penny auction sites don't clean up their act, they are going to be in a WORLD of trouble and NO ONE will get their money back.  It took me 3 weeks, countless emails, the report here, and a final, lengthy email describing to them specifically that I was reporting them to the Better Business Bureau, the Federal Trade Commission, the State Attorney General's Office and the FBI's Internet Crime Unit.  I did get through the reports for the BBB and the FTC and had just completed the FBI form when I received a phone call.  Had they simply refunded my money in the beginning, I never would have gone to such lengths.

I agree with you that if the company truly is a wonderful thing, why do they fight so terribly with dissatisfied customers?  Why wouldn't they re-tool their website to make the purchase clearer?  Add a Confirmation page that is absolutely clear: "If you click 'Submit' you are spending $150"  Every site I use to make payments: electric bill, gas bill, phone bill, TV bill, trash bill, E-bay, Amazon, (you get my point) etc. has a confirmation page!  I will tell you why: because they know only a FEW people will go to the lengths that I did to get their money back!  Otherwise, the rest will just say, "Oh well, I didn't pay attention and they gave me a few more bids, so I'm just out $150."  Sad, really.

The refund did post to my account last Friday, by the way.

I am still skeptical...

..and judging from all the reports lodged here and all over the web that are identical to yours..it seems this website is not really cleaning up it's act. I believe the only reason anyone is being given a refund, or told they will get one..is part of the scam. For every one person that is refunded..how many others are still going through the nightmare? And how many are still being lured in with the deceptions?? Who knows?..but if it happened to you...right??

I am happy for you if you get a refund (has it posted to your account yet?), but this is no way to do business.

If this site was really such a wonderful thing, there would be NO need for so much deception and bogus news reports to lure in members and imply anything is "free" to check out and not disclose the fees clearly and not have a real confirmation page before the customer submits payments etc..and then have them go through all this for a refund. It is a SURE sign to me that in due time like swipebids/swipeauctions which uses the identical business model and deceptions...they will either shut down, or be forced to shut down..and then how will anyone get refunded?

Resolution by General Manager

AUTHOR: Strgglingmom - (USA)

POSTED: Thursday, November 11, 2010

I finally got a call from the General Manager at PriceShuffle two days ago.  While it is unfortunate the lengths I had to go to, I finally did get a refund.  He was relatively understanding about my position and how frustrating it was to have to file reports here on ROR.com, the BBB.com and the FTC before I was offered the refund.  He apologized for the behavior of his staff.  Also, I might add, in my fury, I mistakenly referred to "300 free bids" - the ad actually offered "100 free bids", not 300.  It is a happy end to a rather frustrating and lengthy situation.  Thank you Eli, for finally listening.
