I attended a RCI "free vacation" session, June 2008 and went through a lot of distress to cancel the membership contract I was intensely, high-pressured sell, into signing.
I made the decision to follow through with procedures to cancel within 24 hrs.. The experience left me feeling like a "rape victim" because I was subject to follow up my decision to cancel by filling out and mailing a lot of paper work, making a lot of phone calls and I had to explain the reason I decided to cancel to each company representative I spoke to.
So after about 3 months of anguish and challenges over the deal, I thought I was through the problem.
Obviously, I was wrong. On the average I receive at least one phone call per month asking me if I want to buy, sell, or rent an RCI timeshare! I tell the representative to take me off the phone list because I don't own or want to buy or want to rent a timeshare! Usually rep is confused and can't understand why I'm saying I want nothing to do with a timeshare! I even told one rep, "Sure, I want to sell my timeshare.", and his reply was, "Do you have the deed?". Frustrated, I replied, "No! I don't own a timeshare but I keep getting calls from your company even though I have begged to be taken off the phone list!".
Each time I get the same response, "Your name will be deleted from our calling list". The last time this happened, last month, I told the rep that I planned to file a complaint to Rip-off Report and to my state attorney general's office. He begged me not to file the complaint and assured me the calls would stop.
Apparently, he lied. I got my monthly call just a little while ago and now I'm following through with my written complaint and I had call rejection added to my home and cell phone features today.
I've undergone frustration and harrassment for over two years just because I gave RCI my information.

How to use the RCI timeshare exchange system

Despite RCI is one of the biggest timeshare exchange companies in the world, you still have to be very careful before exchanging your week, as there are many things that could go wrong during the process. Take into consideration that you have to book the resort as soon as possible, sometimes even up to two years in advance, which can be a problem for some families. Also, you must know that a membership fee needs to be paid, whether you exchange your timeshare or not
