I purchased a Sony Vaio SZ360P plus a 3 year extended warranty (which the salesperson said would start after the manufacturer's 1 year warranty has expired).  Now, three years plus one month after the purchase, I called for assistance and they told me that the 3 year extended warranty has expired.  When I purchased the "Sony" extended warranty from the Sony dealer, they told me that it would expire on July 10, 2011.  I looked at my calendar and it looks like this is not for 11 months.

Is the problem that I don't know how to use a calendar - or that ServiceNet doesn't know how to use a calendar - or ServiceNet doesn't want to honor a warranty and they are doing 'fast time' - collapsing time in a way that I thought only Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock knew how to do.

My solution to this problem - I won't purchase any more Sony products and certainly won't purchase any extended warranty that is not honored by the manufacturer.  I will also spread the word about Sony and ServiceNet as widely as possible.

Service Contract

AUTHOR: Suzie - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, September 19, 2010

Hello!

Did you, by chance, purchase Accidental Damage & Handling (ADH) on your notebook when you purchased the notebook?  (It will show on your receipt).

If you did - that type of contract is only sold at the Date of Purchase and runs concurrent with the Sony Manufacturer Warranty.  The OEM warranty does not include ADH coverage - that is a major benefit of the 1st year contract coverage - the manufacturer does NOT cover anything accidental (most OEM's do not).   If the notebook stops working, yes - but if you accidentally do something (drop it, spill something on it, etc.) and it stops working - it will not be covered within the first year without the additional contract coverage.  So technically, the contract starts the same day you purchase the notebook and you have 2 years after that - also with the ADH coverage.

Now...if you didn't purchase the coverage, that's a different story altogether. :)

Hope this helps!
