In Massachusets, where it is mandatory to use this device if you want to drive after a 2nd DUI, LISTEN UP. It costs a lot of money. The device is not without defects and it is condoned by THE DEPT OF MOTOR VEHICLES. More dangerous than the use of a cell phone while driving. Leslie and Kevin (tech) don't return calls. Does anyone agree with me. Open to comments. Long Radio which installs this device is in on this scam as well. They get their cut

DEFECTIVE, UNSAFE, AND JUDGEMENTAL

AUTHOR: Kurt - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, March 31, 2010

PULL OVER?  Sure, do that and blow during rush hour traffic in under 6 minutes - no problem.  Get enough violations and keep the unit longer - Smart Start will be happy.  BTW I had to get one and I haven't been convicted of anything.  I have Multiple Sclerosis and couldn't perform the Field Sobriety Test.  Yes there is more to it than that, but buddy you are not the judge or the jury and innocent people never go to jail do they?  I will rightly have this case dismissed or be judged not guilty and I will still be stuck with having to use this defective unit and non-existent customer service unless I choose to spend more money appealing the civil suit with DMV.  Hard earned money I'll add because I AM a responsible contributing member of society even though I could probably claim disability and be spending your tax dollars.  So fed up that might be just the thing to do.  I think the ads say something about the Smart Start people being professional and non judgemental?  Another lie obviously.

If you read the instructions that come with your Smart Start device, you will see mentioned a number of times, "Pull to side of road or other safe place before attempting test". You have ample to find a safe place to STOP your vehicle and conduct your test then return to the road way. The device is not capable of causing your motor to stop if you don't pull over in time. You WILL lose a violation.
And yes, the facility who recalibrates your Smart Start on a monthly basis DOES get a part of the monthly fee and forwards the rest to the corporate office. That's how commerce works.

Accept your punishment, do your meetings and learn from the experience. The roadways are far safer having you put up with the "inconvenience" of a Smart Start device.
