I found this company online selling remanufactured engines. Their website was well done, and they seemed to know what they were talking about. I couldn't find anything negative about them online and went ahead and called them about placing an order. In retrospect, I should have been tipped off by the fact that, when I didn't order right away, they called me the next day to see if I was ready to order.
Their site states that they usually ship in 1-10 days. I asked how long it would take to ship my engine and was told 10-14 days. Not a big deal really, so I placed my order over the phone using a credit card.
After a few weeks I hadn't heard if it had shipped or not, so I decided to call them. When looking for the website, I realized that it was no longer up. I called them and got a message telling me their mailbox was full, never a good sign. I then started running more google searches and came across a ripoff report.
It seems I have been taken for over $2300 and will now have to work with my credit card company to see if I have insurance on this purchase.
I guess the rule of thumb is, if there's not negative info on a company online, that doesn't mean their trustworthy. Try to stick with companies that do have reviews online.

You should be OK making a dispute claim on your credit card as long as you're within the reporting guidelines (usually 60 days). The credit card company will reverse the charge, then it will be up to the engine rebuilder to prove that the charge is valid. Not a likely occurrance, since they didn't send you anything for your money.
