Standard Technology Industries Standard Technology attempts to extort money for products never ordered Bethel Connecticut

Standard Technologies (which used to be located in Brewster, NY - 18 miles away from its present location across the CT state border in Bethel) calls wanting to confirm a re-order on two cartons of packing tape. They trick you into "confirming" this reorder when you accept a "free gift" as a thank you. Needless to say, no one has ordered from them in the first place - they cold call you.

1-2 weeks after the tape and "gift" arrive, a bill arrived charging over $450 for the two cartons of tape, which were just ordinary packing tape and worth nothing close to that amount (the cost is not disclosed to you until the invoice arrives).

When this happened to us, I then sent a fax back to them, written on the invoice, that we had never done business with them, so it was impossible for us to have reordered from them, and that I wished to return the overpriced tape and cease all business contact with Standard Technology. They then called back and asked what I usually pay for tape, so I told them my best guess and they faxed back an adjusted invoice, even though I did not want the tape at any price, since we were fully stocked from our usual supplier.

The man handling our account with them (although we technically have never had an account with them) has called back many times and is always belligerent, calling me a liar and telling me that he cannot accept back the tape. He also told me during our last exchange that he had recordings of all our phone calls. I was never informed that my calls with him were being recorded, which I believe is illegal in-and-of itself (not that it matters, as I haven't done or said anything illegal). The last time he called, he harassed us by calling back repeatedly over a 30 minute period when I wouldn't give him the answer he wanted (which is that I pay him). We simply would like to return the 2 cartons of unused tape and the unopened "free gift" and never hear from Standard Technology Industries again. I just submitted a report to the CT Better Business Bureau on this company.
