After speaking with my partner in January, we decided to look farther into learning about real estate and how to purchase homes and flip them. The Success Academy called my parter after he had purchased one of their books. My partner called me very excited about the call he had recieved and that someone wanted to mentor us. We both spoke to someone on the phone, I do not recall his name because it was back in January but they spoke highly of the program and built it up to be an amazing wealth building tool. We did not know how much it would cost (if anything... they never told us) and then finally at the absolute end of the conversation the man told us it would cost $8,995.00 for us to participate. Instantly I thought "Ha... yeah right... that's more than a semester at college" but my partner was convinced that we could make it work. I did the dumbest thing I've ever done, put the money on my credit card.
A few weeks in everything was going well, I was recieving weekly calls from my mentor and participating in the online portion as well. Then one day I had to pick up a shift at work, I emailed Rich Underwood (my mentor) and informed him that I would not be able to take the call that night for mentoring and that he should call my partner. He did not call my partner.
This was the last I heard from Rich. The next week, no call. I called the number that I had for him after about 10 minutes (people forget/get caught up in something so I wasn't thinking too much of it) and no answer. I left a message and waiting for another 20 minutes or so but still didn't recieve a call. I called my partner to make sure he didn't recieve the call on accident. Sure enough, no call.
The program stressed the importance of participating in mentoring calls, stating that if you missed one you may fall out of eligability for the program. Technically this meant I had missed two calls and I was starting to get concerned. Did I really just pay almost $9,000 to not have my phone calls returned and have my mentor not keep scheduled appointments?
As time went on, I was frustrated and just stopped participating in the online sessions. I wasn't getting what I needed as a "student" and they were mainly concentrating on other people in the online sessions. I felt extremely dismissed.
My partner and I tried to take the small amount of information we had actually learned from the program and apply it to the housing market where we live. We found massive amounts of competition with people who have been doing what we were attempting to start for more than 10 years. We were officially discouraged and apparently no longer had a mentor to fall back on and ask questions to.
On September 11th, I had had enough and decided to contact EWI Wealth Training to ask for a refund since the program was not doing at all what it had promised. I asked for a full refund. I also called and left a voicemail. I recieved an email back on the 12th from "Success Academy" .. it didn't give me a specific name stating that they would be in touch with me "either by Friday or first part of next week."
I waited until September 18th and sent another email stating that I had not recieved a reply since the last email and asked if someone could please get back to me. After my email they could tell I was frustrated and Christian Maudsley, the operations manager called me. I called him back and left two more voicemails but was unable to reach him until September 25th. I asked him for a full refund for the program over the phone, which he confirmed via email that the request had been sent to the CEO.
I did not hear anything. I emailed on October 7th to ask for an update. Nothing. I emailed on October 15th again since I had still not heard anything from them. Finally after almost 3 weeks since I actually spoke to someone and over a month since I had sent my first email, I recieved an email back stating that my request for a refund had been denied.
He gave me the option of continuing mentoring with Rich Underwood, something that I obviously do not want.
I am out $8.995. That's a lot of money for a 24 year old. I am very upset at the unprofessionalism of this company and feel extremely taken advantage of. I hope no one else has to go through what I've been through.
