I resently worked for United American. The company has you go to a seminar in a hotel for the interview. First, they are only looking for bodies to fill the seats at these seminars. If you can pass the state license exam you are hired. To get people in the seminar they call potential employees and tell them they are the Torchmark Corporation and not United American. They are a small part of the Torchmark Corporation, but they know that people will not attend if they know that this is an Insurance Company. I knew nothing about Insurance Sales and after being hired they gave me a one day crash course on writing their Flex Plan (which is their main health insurance). This is their main goal is to sell this plan. The company does not effectively teach people to sell their products. After you get the crash course you are on your own. You can ask to have a more seasoned agent to help you but usually they are too busy and they expected me to call them with any questions while with the client. Personally I do not think that is very professional to tell the client "hang on let me ask my manager".
In the seminar they also say that there are no COLD CALLING. This is so far from the truth. They use sales genie leads that are no more than giving me the yellow pages. I was expected to contact the owner to sell the policy to not the receptionist, bartender etc... Is that technically the person who needs the coverage? They wanted me to call from the office and the company did not have enough phone lines ( only 2 oh yeah and a fax line), nor did they have enough desks for the employees to sit at. I was sitting on the floor in my dress clothes using my cell phone. Then when I complained they told me to up my minutes. I just want others to be aware when they choose this company. I now work for a GREAT company!! The training is top-notch. They also have real Leads to work with. I know that selling is more than the leads the company gives you, but with no training how can someone succeed? If you do not know about the products the company offers, you cannot sell the product properly. Also they did not tell me about Errors and Omissions . Isn's that EXTREMELY IMPORTANT to have just incase someone decides to sue you? Afterall the way the world is, everyone is sue crazy. I hope this helps others who may either be on the fence on staying with United American, or planning to work there. Some people may have a better experience with them, but not me.

Why do some of you people seem to live on this website?

I notice there are several people who seem to be responding and responding and responding to so many of these complaints, always dogging on anyone who doesn't agree with their claims or points. I also notice that many of these people are responding in the middle of the day, when most of the successful people in the insurance industry are at work. Maybe one of the reasons that these people did not do very well with this company is because when they were suppose to be working they were doing something else that was unproductive. Insurance is a tough business. If you are not working your tail off giving it your very best for at least your first year you will fail. If it was that easy anybody could do it and make a ton of money. Quit trying to pull everyone else down, just get on with your own business. If you were really doing that well in the business you would value your time more. To all the United American haters: post the company you represent, how many years you have been with them, and how much you made last year, then we will see how much credibility you really have.

All Sales is networking, cold calling, ect.
If you cannot do what is asked then please find a 9 - 5 position with your guarantee and quit complaining.
One extra bit...The company does provide leads FREE to the agent, however to make 6+ figures, the agent must do their part and work "Outside of the box", making contacts and working the business model!
When they dont work as told to do, they fail and file a complaint here and elsewhere!!!!
Funny part for me is....I was broke, for reasons that dont matter, and came to a Torchmark company. I applied myself....I WORKED...Truly WORKED!!! I did not shuffle papers and a make a call every 5 minutes....I did as I was told to. I am making 98,820.00 a year and have been with the company less than 15 months. Do I wish for 150.000 a year...of course...however I do know it is based on my performance, my deisre, and my work ethic. So for Those that wish to complain because they did nothing....Really.... And please investigate this statement....It was because they did not do as told by their management team, which in any other industry would have terminated them immediately....Liberty National allows you to terminate yourself!!!!!!

All insurance agencies will require cold-calling. Some can do it, others can't. I was one who couldn't.
