Universal Auto Recovery picked up my car about 3 hours after I got off the phone with Capitol One on a issue of payment.I had made arrangements to pay Capitol One the next day and they agreed that would be fine.  Much to my surprize the driver showed up and hooked-up car and was going to take it away before I stopped him.Told him the situation and he waited untill I was finished with Capitol One on the phone and they stated if the car was hooked up I couldn't pay the payment untill I called another department at Capitol One.They said I would need to get more information and it would take a few hours to get resolved.

The driver (who seemed pretty nice) said he would leave car in Grand Rapids untill I picked it up that day,but was told later that day he drove it to another city 60 miles away.He stated if I wanted to remove the money from the console before he drove out and I stated "No I will get it later today when I pick up car".He never mentioned taking any personal property out of the car as he noticed the property in the back seat.   He drove away and I called Capitol One Bank, and was told I needed to submit 7 references before I could get car back from Universal Auto Recovery.   I refused to submit these and told them to sell the car and send me the balance.

I contacted Universal to get property back now and they said the car was pick-up by Bay City Auctions and Universal never cleaned out car as Michigan Law requires them to complete along with removing the licence plates.  Now my car is at the auction for about 2 days with my personal property inside and when I called universal they said Bay City Auction would mail the property to Universal and she would mail it to me.  This was done but the only property I recieved back was the property that didn't cost much and someone stoled all the other property in the car.  I called Universal and they stated they dont have any more property and I couldn't prove the property was in the car (which I have witnesses to state property was left in the car) and they said you do what you have to do.

Somebody stoled this property and Universal Auto Recovery is going to find the police at their door asking questions and when I get them in court they are going to have to bring all the people involved in this stolen property issue and are going to be held liable as they are required to empty contents of the car before going to auction, but they blame me for their mistakes.   Maybe Bay City Auctions will find my property before the lawsuit is filed.I would not trust these people if you encounter them as I have been more than patient with them and they are responsible but don't care about thieves and refuse to take responsibility but will in due time.  Calling them 1 more time before filing lawsuit and will reply on the verdict.

Universal Auto Recovery Update.

Spoke with an employee at the company and ask if they wanted to settle this problem and gave them till Friday. Its now past friday and no call was recieved nor did they ask the value of the property that was stolen.  I have contacted Capitol One who they contract thru and they are sending me a form to fill out regarding this incident.Universal Auto Recovery in one way or another is going to pay for the stolen property as they didn't use reasonable care in protecting my personal property. These people only seem to care about getting paid for their time and dont care about whats in a car when they tow it away. Will update later as they are not going to get away with this type of behavior.I'am holding off on the police report and lawsuit pending hearing from Capitol One.
