USPassport Now Far too expensive passport service... felt as though it was a scam. Internet, Internet

I went ahead and paid the 130$ 'first time fee' for this service, and am deciding not to continue with the rest. After paying this 130$ fee, which I thought was going to be the total fee for my passport, I find out there is an additional 170-190$ ish "government fee" that I have to pay on top of that.. making my passport cost come out to almost a total of 300$ USD.

I actually called them and asked if these costs were the same as getting a passport locally from my US Postal office.. they said yes. That the costs were the same everywhere.

I went ahead and called the US Postal office to schedule to get a passport there.. they said the total costs would be 130$ for the passport, and 190$ for a passport expedited. So basically, it would cost the same amount of money for me to just go ahead and get a passport through my US Postal service locally, and not have to deal with the tons of confusing paperwork that US Passport now tries to get you to fill out online.

Apparently this 130$ dollars was their "service fee" and did not pay for the passport at all? I would reccomend getting your passport locally and legally through the standard Postal Service, if you want to save headaches and money..
