Well folks Wachovia Strikes again! On Tuesday 10/11/05 I went to an ATM and withdrew 40.00 I received my receipt back and it showed 91.00 available. I proceeded to do my grocery shopping which came up to 73.00. In an ideal world I should have had 18.00 left in my account right? WRONG! I checked my account online on Wednesday 10/12/05 and it showed that I was charged 120.00 in overdraft fees. How exactly is that possible? I called customer service and waited 20 minutes while the customer service representative tried to figure out what happened. While she was doing her magic bank math formulas, she explained to me that online customer service, the IVR, and the ATM's are not accurate, and that each can be showing a different balance. So, I ask her, how can a customer know what their balance is when they need to withdraw money. She stated that the only way to know for sure is by writing down every transaction that you complete. ????
So in 2005, what is the point in all of these great-automated systems, if that is the case I can just cash my check and be my own little bank. Apparently she thought that was funny although I didn't. Ultimately she said even though it was my fault and I should have been writing down my charges and not relying on the bank to know my balance (?) she would as a "courtesy" waive 2 of the charges. Because I have no understanding of "magic bank math" and because I have been dealing with this for 5 years I just said fine, and thank you and disconnect my call. Well I get paid direct deposit on Friday 10/14/05, check my account, and to my shock and dismay I have been charged an additional 90.00 in overdraft fees. All of the same charges that were on my account when I spoke to the first representative were still on the account. I had not spent any more money. What happened?
So once again I call Wachovia and speak with a representative. She was very nice and explained to me that on their side it was not showing that those charges were on the online account just two days before. I asked to speak to a supervisor and after holding for 10 minutes, Angie Steel, who claimed to be the AVP (Assistant Vice President) of the call center came and just repeated what the previous rep had already said. She said because of the 'relationship' that the bank has with my account, I was not worth a credit for the NSF fees. At this point I am willing to take legal action against the bank. In the five years I have been with them they have lost my money, charged me fees when the money was there, closed my account and refused to open it when my entire payroll check has been direct deposited. I think its time for a divorce and I want half. FYI their legal address is Legal Order Processing PA 4292 PO BOX 8667 Philadelphia PA 19010.

It is still the customer's responsibility.

And why would they send you a check register with your checks? Oh wait, for scrap paper of course.
You alone are responsible for keeping your own account balance.
I would suggest trying to call your bank to see if you may be able to opt out of his "feature". I was able to do so with the bank I use. It would depend I suppose on what program that your bank is using.
Good luck.

FOCUS PEOPLE! READ THE REAL GREVIANCES WITH WACHOVIA AND THEN PLACE A REBUTTAL THAT ANSWERS TO THAT. HERE I WILL COPY AND PASTE THEM FOR YOU
Why does a bank have a feature on everyone's account that allows funds to go through even if you don't have the money? When questioned about this they stated that for customer protection they will take out the larger purchase in order to ensure that the funds are available, but why is this necessary from a bank that has a feature automatically placed on your account that allows charges to go thru regardless of whether or not you have funds available?

God Forbid

God forbid the bank suggest that the owner of the funds take responsibility of their own money and keep track of what they bring in and "hand out"! What in the world was Wachovia thinking when they tell customers it is their responsibility to keep track?
Grow up people, if you still need to be spoonfed, you don't need to have a banking account. If you have trouble with math and can't add and subtract in your register, for goodness sakes get a calculator.

You must work for the company

Hey Guys,
What is the point of the ATM, Online Banking, and an IVR (automated system) if the bank can't keep track of your funds? Is that not apart of the job? I'm sure that your facetious comments made you feel big and like you really did something, however you never addressed the real issue, why does Wachovia have these services if they cannot keep track of your funds, why is there no disclaimer in their T&C's (terms and conditions) stating that all three of their tracking methods don't really track anything, why is it that they hold all of your little charges for 2 and 3 days but when you have big charge they take that out immediately leave you with no money left and then charge you for each of the little charges? Why does a bank have a feature on everyone's account that allows funds to go through even if you don't have the money? When questioned about this they stated that for customer protection they will take out the larger purchase in order to ensure that the funds are available, but why is this necessary from a bank that has a feature automatically placed on your account that allows charges to go thru regardless of whether or not you have funds available? I'm assuming with your nasty comments and sarcastic remarks you must understand all of these procedures. If so I suppose you must work for the company because they are the only people who seem to think that any of this makes sense.

The outrage! The unbelievability! How dare they suggest I keep track of what I put in/withdraw from my bank account. The next directive will be: Don't put your cat in the clothes dryer.

What nerve!

Can you believe it? The bank actually had the nerve to suggest that she should keep track of her balance! Unbelieveable! Next thing you know, appliance manufacturers will be telling us not to use hair dryers in the bathtub! Where will it end?
