I'm original from Europe and we learned at school, that you can't choose your parents or skin color. I just moved to Denver and was searching for the closest Wal-Mart Super center. I spent 50 minutes in the store. I needed two items (one CD player and vinyl for tablecover).

When I asked an African/American employee, if he works in this store and is able to assist me, he turned around and did not give me any answer. "How may I help you - Right"

After 30 minutes three pieces of vinyl were still not cut and ready to go.(Female African/American employee with this extreme long fingernails, where you can't touch anything or work in proper speed)I was requesting a supervisor or store manager - they just loved about you and ignored to assist you.

After 15 minutes waiting I went to the Customer Service counter and made another attempt to talk with the store manager or their assistants. An unqualified 25 year young female tries to act like the store manager and her answer was I will address this issue to the right department managers - how helpful.

If this is such an issue, why is Wal-Mart not opening race oriented stores.

Erich, while I understand your frustration, the best thing to do is to take down the names of the employees, their store number, and the district number. Then you should have called the district office and reported what had happened.

And Lee, while Walmart is being sued over making associates work off the clock, I have yet to see that happen at the store that I work at (not saying it couldn't happen somewhere else). Also, the majority of the associates that I work with are retired, high schoolers, college students (me), or bored housewives. Believe me, customers at my store have often tried to accuse me of being a high school dropout and I politely inform them that yes I have graduated high school, have a BA in history, and am currently working on an education degree.

However, I do agree with you on the racism. I don't think that the employee was being racist, maybe he had trouble understanding you? I know that there have been times that I have had people approach me with heavy accents and I can't always understand them.

Erlich,

Coming from another country I'm certain you just are not that aware of what happens at Wal-Mart, America's slave labor camps.
The guy you saw stacking shelves is probably earning $7.25 an hour, no health benefits, no child care assistance, no retirement fund, no vacation allowance, nothing that makes him want to go above and beyond in customer service. Furthermore he may be LOCKED IN the store after closing hours and forced to work OFF THE CLOCK (unpaid)to meet Wal-Mart's corporate draconian requirements on wage efficiency. Wal-Mart has been sued so many times over these lock ins by the weak government labor offices. They have also been busted having illegal aliens Mexicans, Guatemalans, even Chinese people working at night cleaning and buffing floors. Wal-Mart makes no investments in its employees, they just use and abuse them until they quit and then they bring in another lot of high school drop outs, single moms dumped from welfare rolls, senior citizens and so on to replace them. In some markets they have actually run out of people to replace quitters and are simply recycling former staffers who often have no other work options. Also keep in mind that in some states welfare recipients can work 25 hours a week and still keep their welfare payments and state medical insurance. So basically these people maybe make $190-$240 a week from Wal-MArt and the government subsidizes the rest of their lives, therefore keeping Wal-Mart full of "go nowhere" people literally stuck in a Sheet-hole of a job. I don't know about other readers but I don't know if its appropriate for private companies to have their employee's health, food and housing requirements met by American taxpayers simply so they can work at Wal-Mart who ultimately have no responsibility for their well being!!! I've only been in a Wal-Mart once or twice as in NYC we were thankfully shielded from them coming into our neighborhoods. Unfortuately the folks in rural areas arent so lucky. The shelves are chock full of the lowest quality Chinese made goods known on this planet. Keep in mind also that Wal-Mart buys these shoddy goods from Chinese manufacturers that use near slave labor conditions to turn out mass quantities of crap to sell to poor Americans at Wal-MArt. So basically from start to finish people are fukked over in order for Wal Mart to turn a profit. Related to this bit is the fact that not too long ago Wal Mart was busted selling items marked "Made in USA" when in fact the tags were changed from "Made in China, Guatemala" etc.
That African American who was a bit grumpy also may have suffered their mother's fabric shop being put out of business when Wal-Mart came to town and undercut her vinyl tablecloth prices by 50% forcing her to go to work at Wal Mart.
So before you try to cry racism consider all of the above and think about how'd you in the same situation! I'm white as white and if I was at Wal Mart working believe me I wouldn't crack a smile under damned near any circumstance.
