I recently purched a WalMartmoneycard prepaid visa (or so I thought) at a Wal-Mart in Concord N.H. for my mother for Christmas who lives in Utah. The cashier asked how much do you want to put on the card I said $25.00, the total was $37.94 ($12.94 for the card) My first surprise, then she said you will need to active the card online the information is on the recite. I was very surprised to fined out when I went to activate the card that this was no EZ task, and begin to get very frustrated when I was asked to give name, address, DOB, SS# (All this for a prepaid visa card? are you kidding me). Then after hours of frustration online and on the phone where no real people exist I realized this is not a prepaid card at all. Well ok then just return the card, it as not been activated should be no problem right? WRONG!! This is a non-refundable card but you don't know this until after you have purchased the card. No was on the packaging does it say nonrefundable. So after countless hours of frustration and long lines I have $25.00 out there in limbo land some where because I will not give the personnel information required to activate the so called "PREPAID MONEYCARD" I will get my mother something else for Christmas but it won't be anything from WALMART (hopefully she gets it in time for Christmas).

Suggestion

1. Get a bank account
2. get a debit card

This is how most people do it.

Pre-paid cards are not a good value and are only for those who can not get bank accounts or who can not control their spending(those people should only use cash IMO).

I had a hard time reading this report because the OP cannot spell or form a paragraph

Not seeing the ripoff or the scam...

Sorry, but it looks like you were given what you asked for. You just refuse to activate the card. After 9/11, pretty much everyone who is issued a credit card has to give their SSN and that applies to a lot of pre-paid cards as well. If you're really that worried, try buying a Visa gift card.

I can see the most likely problem here.

It appears that you are barely literate and that may shed some light on why that very basic website was so confusing.

Registration of the card is required in order to protect you against loss or theft.

And, tougher identity requirements have been put in place after 911 and increased homeland security laws.

This is for everyone's safety INCLUDING you!

As long as you are using a secure site, your personal and financial information is much more secure than you scribbling it out on a job application or credit application that is on paper somewhere laying around for anyone to see or end up in a dumpster, etc.

Your problems here are only due to your own paranoia and overall lack of education.

Activate the card, and move on.
