Wells Fargo put a hold on a state check I deposited on the 11/14/06 the hold was to be lifted on 11/16/06,but I did not know about the hold until it was to late. On 11/15/06 Wells Fargo took money out of my account and sent back checks that came thru on the 15th,16th,17th,20th. I was charged 30.00 per check and all checks were sill unpaid. They reversed fees and then took the check card purchases that already went thru off the reversed fees.

I stopped using my check card and the checks they sent back continued to come thru,so they continued to charge me and reverse fees again. I was finally able to get the account closed by contacting the bbb,but I still have bounced checks and bad credit. I have a copy of the receipt from the deposit on the 14th and printout of all the charges they made to my account.

The printouts show funds avaible when checks were sent back and I also received an email from Wells Fargo stating that if the check I deposited was verified good and I had no knowledge of the hold placed on my check that they would pay any overdraft fees that come thru. I intend to fight this

oppurtunity checking

AUTHOR: Tammy - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, December 08, 2006

I got the receipt from wells fargo and it said nothing about a hold being placed on my check and even if it did not everyone reads their receipts. Wells Fargo took money out on the 15th and the hold was not lifted yet and checks came thru on the 16th when the hold was suppose to be lifted, but they still sent the checks back. I wanted to deposit the money to cover checks that were already out there. The check was for 246.00 dollars,so I don't think it was necessary to put a hold on such amount coming from the state.

Wells Fargo reversed most fees and continued to charge more for the same reasons,so I think that speaks for itself. My daughters social security check was suppose to go in my account on the 1st,but since the account was suppose to be closed on the the 29th it should have been rejected.

Social Security is telling me it hasn't come back yet,but they will issue another check and if the first one turns up cashed then she will not get a check next month. I think the only reason wells fargo opened the account for me was because in 2004 I filed bankruptcy and they took the oppurtunity to get the 500.00 dollars back by giving me the oppurtunity checking account, but I think they should have been smart enough to get their story straight before they start messing with my account. I have all the proof and they have nothing.

#1 UPDATE Employee

you didn't know about the hold?

Hi Tammy,

One of the first things that you said was that Wells Fargo put a hold on your state check?

I guess I find that a little hard to believe. Typically even a non account holder can walk into a Wells Fargo and request CASH for a check from the state. (provided they have sufficient id) The Wells Fargo that you chose to go to, is there a reason they didn't give you cash?

And even if they accepted the check for deposit only, they put a hold on a STATE check??

Do you have a new account?

Was the check significantly larger than the amount of money that you normally keep in your account?

Was the check signed over to you from someone else?

Million Dollar question...Do you have the Opportunity Checking account?

The reason I asked is because those are just about the only reasons I could think that your branch would have put a hold on a state check.

You say that you didn't know about the hold until it was too late?

Us tellers are required to present a reciept on every transaction...especially with something as significant as a delay of your funds. You would've gotten a longer than average reciept.

Also, your transaction would've taken longer than normal. You should've seen more than one person working on the computer/window that you decided to go to. Every time a hold is placed, the teller will need to get someone superior to him or her, an appover. An approver is typically a lead teller or the teller manager. No teller can place a hold by himself or herself.

I'll admit, I did get off track just a bit, but back to my point, somehow you had to know about the hold at the time you did the deposit.
