I was contacted by phone by this company back on 1/19/09 and was told I also had won a free watch and they told me to claim it I would have to sign up for a two year magazine subscription. I asked for everything in writing and they said they would send it to me after I gave them my cc # for the $40 pmt for the first two months of the subscription - BIG MISTAKE! I never have done anything like that in my life and I wish I had never done it! On 2/14/09, I received a one page letter (no info to read over and sign I might add) with not one but FIVE magazine subscriptions on it that I never authorized and that is what i wanted them to send me in writing so I could read over and decide then what I wanted. Not only was I charged $40 but when I called them the next busines day on 2/16/09, I was told I could not cancel unless I paid them $200 for a 'settlement offer'! How is that possible when I never gave them any personal info or signed one document! I also was told at that time that I was signed up for a 5 yr subscription and not a 2 year subscription which is not what I thought I was told I was getting! Not only have I not received anything yet, now I can't cancel for something I never signed my name to! This has got to be illegal at some juncture! I cannot believe they have been in business for this long based solely on a recorded phone call and nothing else! I reported them to the BBB yesterday on the BBB website but I am also going to contact an attorney before this gets blown out of proportion and on my credit! This is false advertising and a scam - I don't care what they claim! I got nothing I asked for in writing and signed no agreement in writing and how they can hold you to it legally is beyond me. Anyone who can help me get out of this? I was trying to clean up my credit but now I am going to refuse to pay this rediculous $200 fee for something I never signed on or received and I know they will fight me.
