On March 23, 2007, I received a Yellow Pages Directories form in the mail. My company had just moved to a new location in a new city, and we just received our new phone number. A few days prior, we had spoken in person to a Local Yellow Pages sales person. So when I received the Yellow Pages Directories form in the mail, I thought that the form I was filling out was a free listing from my local Yellow Pages. It claimed "Free listings" and no where on the page did it say anything about a fee...until you turn the page over and on the lower bottom of the page it reads $298 for a listing.

I found out later that it was not a listing for our local Yellow Pages book and that it is a scam (judging by the hundreds of postings on online sites claiming this company scams people on a regular basis). Now, the Yellow Pages Directories are calling me and sending me bills for $298.00. They have threatened to send me to a collection company (their letterhead has 3 names on it to try to fool me into believing that they are a law firm). They list Fed Tax ID # 71-090174- this number does not show up as being issued. They also have on the paper work that I signed that they will renew the subscription every year. Line item #6 on their "terms & conditions" states that you can fax or mail a cancellation.

I have mailed 3 letters (the last of which I had to send certified because they "had no record of my cancellation letters" and I called 3 times to verify cancellation "told me that I couldn't cancel"). Luckily I never gave them my credit card information.

A friend of mine paid them mistakingly thinking that it was the Local Yellow Pages and they NEVER listed her on their bogus site www.onlineyellowpages.com and continue to bill her. She has received 2 collection notices.

The company that owns "Yellow Pages Directories" is ADTEL AMERICA located in Carrollton, TX 75006.

I would be interested in starting a class action lawsuit against these scumbags.

My friend and I filed a complaint with the Texas Attorney General. I also filed a complaint w/ the Better Business Bureau of Dallas, Texas, although I doubt that will do any good considering the fact that their site doesn't show half of the complaints (if any) that this company has received because their website doesn't work!
