When we first launched our website for our start-up business, the marketing sales pitches from toll-free numbers around the country started rolling in. I've never revived so many cold calls in my life. But when it came to the Yellow Pages, we thought, well this is likely a reputable company. It's not hard to admit we were terribly wrong & signing a contract with YP marketing solutions was the single worst decision we had made kicking off our company's marketing. The sales pitch was uncanny! You'll hear phrases like "If you don't receive calls, you won't pay us the monthly fee!" and "We have so many people searching for your current business offerings"...followed by some intriguing number that I'd bet money the sales person tossed a dart at a board and decided upon that number (as long as it was high high high).

After paying the monthly fee for several months with no calls from customers at all, none, nada, not a single one, we decided to cancel the service. We figured we'd start by calling the rep that sold us the service. That guy must have moved to Timbuktu cause he did not answer & his phone stated that he changed his number or it was no longer in service. Here we go calling the main customer service line and ended up talking to another person that did her best to convince us that we only had to do these "additional" steps to get phone calls that she could help us with and "waive" the added fees for that additional service. Oh boy. There was no mention of additional steps needed during the first sales pitch & we were already locked into a steep monthly fee.

We are pretty heated at this point and after an extraordinary long time explaining that same contract language to her over the phone about the service and our rights to cancel, she semi-agrees to disagree and states that we will be contacted in 24-48 hours or so. No one called. No one emailed. Crickets. We sent a formal written email that we were cancelling the service. We thought we would go this route rather than exceed another 30 minutes on the phone with no actionable results. We received a response that our email was being reviewed. Then we thought we won the lottery because we finally received an email that the service was cancelled. Did they cancel the monthly charge though? No. They did not. Our final call tonight to discuss with them that we received the email that the contract was cancelled but yet we are still being charged. This person says yet another person will contact us at a later time. No results again. YP Marketing was an awful business decision. Hundreds of dollars worth of advertising expense paid to them for not one single call or return on investment. Lesson learned.
