According to the Better Business Bureau of Florida, American Standard Moving and Storage has had more than 100 reported complaints from scammed customers in the last three year period. They hook unsuspecting customers with low ball estimates offered online and over the phone, then pull bait-and-switch tactics to tack on hidden fees and ultimately extort thousands of dollars more from victims of their scam. They do not perform any moving themselves, but subcontract the work out to the equally deceptive and dishonest Safeguard Van Lines of Clifton, NJ, who show up at the last minute and find excuses to raise the cost of the moving job by thousands of dollars on the spot -- when customers have few options to refuse at the last minute, with no time left to reserve a reputable moving service at a fair price.

The subcontractor will demand payment in cash so they cannot be pursued by credit card companies for cheating customers. Then, American Standard and Moving Storage will not honor their promised move-in delivery date, saying the fine print in their contract does not guarantee delivery by the date they promise. Our delivery showed up four weeks late, in a truck with one driver and zero movers. The driver demanded an extra $4,000 in cash to unload the truck and said that if we did not pay, we would never see our belongings again. Then, he left our belongings in the street, where some items were stolen by people driving by.

The company claims to pay only six cents on the dollar for any lost or damaged items, but don't don't expect a dime in reimbursement. Read the fine print of American Standard Moving and Storage's contract, which prohibits victims from joining a class action lawsuit to make them pay full restitution. The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Affairs, which investigates consumer complaints, wants to hear morfe customers' horror stories about American Standard Moving and Storage in order for the state agency to close down their operation and save you from being scammed. Be warned: Do NOT engage in business with American Standard Moving and Storage or their subcontractor Safeguard Van Lines. Read the many complaints about them by other victims on this site and at the website of the Better Business Bureau.
