BUYER BEWARE!! My family was scammed out of $19,200 by Anthem Tax Services, and the IRS is putting a lien on our home because of Anthem's negligence and incompetence!

Here is my story: In July 2021, my husband and I retained Anthem to help resolve our tax debt after seeing a commercial on TV. Anthem uses compelling ads to prey on people like us who have IRS debt and don't know where else to turn. They use deceptive tactics to lure potential clients in. Anthem representatives told us that we would have a resolution within 30 to 60 days in writing, and we were promised an Offer in Compromise and that they would reduce our total payment to the IRS. Anthem said they would negotiate with the IRS for us, but they never even tried and we were blatantly dupped.

Anthem representatives constantly told us that the IRS was backed up with cases and that was causing the long delay. Months, turned into years and now, almost 4 years later, we still have NO resolution. Anthem dropped the ball, was extremely negligent, incompetent and did NOT reduce our debt by any stretch of the imagination.

Because of Anthem Tax Services negligence, my husband and I are now forced into the daunting process of taking out a Home Equity Line of Credit in order to pay the IRS in full all of the monies owed because our fees and interest are over $800 every week. We had no knowledge the interest was piling on and now our tax debt has ballooned to over $220,000 because of interest and penalties that have compounded astronomically over the years.

To make matters even worse, in October 2024, we were advised and coached by a so called “Anthem Tax Specialist” to buy 2 cars in order to reduce our IRS disposable income. She said verbatim, "it's better for you to pay for two new used cars, rather than pay the IRS." Even after nearly four years, Anthem still never filed an Offer in Compromise for us and said we would have to pay the whole amount anyway and there was nothing they could do.

We were blatantly lied to and they took all of our money over the years in 4 payments totaling $19,200. Even after all of this, Anthem is ignoring our requests for our money back. Anthem's mission statement and guarantee, if they are unable to save money, rework payments, or deliver the expected outcomes, clients are eligible for a refund. We tried to contact Anthem over 2 weeks ago but have not received any response from them about our request for money back. No family should ever have to go through this living nightmare like we did! Buyer Beware!!

2/19/2025

It has now been over a week since my initial review and since then Anthem and their “mediator” Todd Lewis from “Reputation MD” has been hounding us to take it down because we shared our story online. He said he was neutral and unbiased, but he ignored all of my documented evidence which clearly showed Anthem misled us and he has an “anthemtaxservices” email address so I that was an immediate red flag that I could not trust him!! If you have been contacted by him, my sincerest recommendation is to keep all correspondence via email so he can’t lie or give you inaccurate information like he tried with us.

I’d like to continue to share my experience weekly so that Anthem doesn’t hurt more innocent people. Unfortunately, back in 2021 my husband and I fell victim to their OIC scam. For years they kept requesting my husband gather bills, statements, etc. thinking they were working on an OIC for us. In March of 2024 an Anthem representative said again he was going to file an OIC if we paid Anthem an additional $14,600 for their extended service. He told us, that based on his experience, “our IRS debt would be reduced to under $20,000”. After paying them a total of $19,200 over almost 4 years for their so-called tax expertise, we found out they lied (meaning they suddenly said we had never qualified for an OIC) and we now owe $224,000!! They could have said that in the start. If you feel that you have been wronged or scammed by Anthem Tax Services, please contact me at shelley.hernandez@outlook.com. Together, we can fight against Anthem’s deceptive marketing, lies and misrepresentation. Todd failed to resolve our money back guarantee, and we are currently looking for legal advice to seek damages for all the economic damage that Anthem has caused us. For all of you out there that own a house and cars, or if you make over $80,000 combined, you will probably not qualify for an OIC. Based on online data, less than 36% of all OIC’s submitted are accepted and you can file an OIC on your own and only pay $205, rather than paying thousands upon thousands of dollars to companies like Anthem. We racked up tens of thousands in IRS interest and penalties because of Anthem’s wasteful delays.

What in the world

AUTHOR: Flint - (United States)

First, I have no idea how you screw up so badly that you owe a quarter mil to the IRS. Second, I have no idea why you think the IRS is interested in negotiating that down, especially if you are able to make payments. In any case, you can talk to them yourself, it's not rocket science. You owe money, they want to collect it. And if you had read your agreement with them, you would have realized that they are not promising anything and I'm sure there is a disclaimer in there that basically means they can take your money and do next to nothing. Any lawyer with a flashy website and a bunch of billboard marketing is best avoided. Lawyers who are good usually have more work than they can handle even without actively marketing themselves. Someone who relies on billboards basically does it because they don't get repeat business or word of mouth recommendations. And guess who pays for those billboards?
