My wife Barb Price recently made a reservation with Baileys Harbor Yacht Club in Baileys Harbor, WI for both her and myself. Arrival for us was for 7/3/24 with departure scheduled for 7/6/24. We paid Baileys Harbor Yacht Club a $434.00 deposit in order to secure our reservation. On June 14, my wife Barbara suffered a medical emergency on our way down to Kenosha, WI and is currently admitted to North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale, MN for bleeding on the brain. I made a call to Baileys Harbor Yacht Club on Thursday, June 20, 2024 at 10:00 am to cancel our reservation based upon the medical emergency that my wife suffered back on June 14, 2024. I was told by Claudia in reservations that she will cancel our reservation, however, Baileys Harbor Yacht Club will withhold $50.00 of our $434.00 deposit as a cancellation fee. This so called "cancellation fee policy" is completely unacceptable to both Barbara and myself and we are now seeking the assistance of the Better Business Bureau to recouping our $50.00 going forward. After waiting well over a month for our $50.00 refund to be returned to us from Baileys Harbor Yacht Club, the company never responded back to either the Better Business Bureau nor to us directly. We are both shocked and completely dismayed by this complete lack of response from this Door County, WI resort and want to advise the entire nation to never ever stay at the Baileys Harbor Yacht Club. This organization, in our professional opinion, does not care about its customers and ripped off both my wife & I $50.00 of which we were ethically entitled to receive back based upon on medical circumstances on our earlier travel to Kenosha, WI. Stay away from Baileys Harbor Yacht Club in Baileys Harbor, WI! Horrible place in every sense of the word!

Huh?

You cancelled the reservation and they charged you a very reasonable fee for cancelling the reservation.  Many people who cancel reservations have a good reason for doing so, but that doesn't change the rules which you agreed to when you booked the reservation.  Their website is very clear about the fee.  An airline isn't going to refund your ticket just because  you got sick and can't make the flight.  This isn't any different.  If you don't like it, you can purchase trip insurance that might protect you in this situation.

If you ask nicely, businesses will sometimes refund fees as a courtesy, but it's a courtesy, not an entitlement.  So nobody is ripping you off, and your attitude is very unlikely to result in the outcome you want.
