I am one of 10,000s of homeowners who got scammed by clearchoice energy
SCAM, pure and simple! Investigated by attorney generals of several States; Daily Beast called them: Unethical Electric? This business employs abusive, spam advertising tactics through deceitful mail campaigns to trick you into signing to switch your supply to them.
Here is the sequence of the scam: Your household will receive mail that reads: “Important Notice: Action Requested”, “Electricity Notice”, “Final Notice”; the envelope and letterhead will mimic the logo of your current electric company and the official logo of the state. Just like what happened to my 71-year old mom, it is easy to think that it is a letter from your current electric company and sign it. The scam rolls by switching your supply to them. But because you receive a combined invoice from your energy delivery company, it is almost impossible to notice that your supplier has been changed to CleanChoice Energy. From that point, CleanChoice Energy applies bait-and-switch progressively increasing your KWH rate; our current rate reached no less than 3.7x the rate of our previous supplier with no upfront notice whatsoever! Our bills used to be in the $300s range and suddenly they became no less than $1000 a month. At that level, it got our attention, but it was already too late. We got scammed.
Fraud, widely covered! Now you’d think that you want to pay a bit extra for cleaner energy, there too, think again, CleanChoice Energy prey exactly on that goodwill as many investigations have shown that CleanChoice Energy lies about its energy sources and % of clean energy origins. Read the press. Not only that but if you are one who review.
Dishonest And Unethical: Their generic response is always: “We buy clean, renewable energy on the open market. Like any other commodity, energy prices fluctuate.” There is nothing far from the truth and investigations shows that their pricing is astronomically higher than any other clean energy supplier ; others are lot more ethical and are upfront about rate increases.
The Go-Around: at Clearchoice Energy, customer agents are trained to point out immediately the date you signed that deceptive “final notice” paper. They refuse to discuss rates and wash their hands by sending you to the delivery company (in our case, it is Eversource). Eversource sends us back to ClearChoice Energy!
Fake: their reviews are full of fake self-made reviews; each time there is 1 star review, it follows with one or two 5 stars reviews with bizarrely similar tone and wording.
Please, Please, Read The Real Reviews And Make Your Decision. Know, there are other clean energy companies that offer better rates and service, and most importantly, they are honest, ethical and upfront. Cleanechoice Energy is the worst choice.

Seriously?
AUTHOR: Flint - (United States)

It looks like any other piece of junk mail. It says specifically right above the signature line that you are switching suppliers. Nowhere does it say that it's from your current company. And that icon is not a "state logo", it's literally just a map outline of your state. You would have to be particularly dense to fall for this. Next time, read what you are signing before signing it. And take some personal responsibility before blaming everyone else for your laziness and apparent illiteracy.
