College Hunks Hauling Junk and Moving Crystal Lake Extensive damage and missing items cary il

I hired College Hunks(Crystal Lake) for "white glove" packing and moving services Oct. 31, 2023. 2 “hunks” came for this job arriving over an hour late. They came unprepared and ran out of packing materials 2x. Once the truck was loaded, my storage unit in which they were scheduled to take my belongings had closed. Now my items needed to be stored on their loading truck overnight. On 11/1, Lukas(owner), sent out 3 new “hunks” to unload the truck at the storage unit where my items stayed until 11/16. This is when I became aware of the extensive damage that had occurred. Directly on the concrete floor without protective covers laid my glass tables, tvs, headboard, bedframe, lamps, etc. There are chips on cabinets, dining table, and a mirror. There are deep scratches on multiple pieces, including the metal of my bev fridge, fireplace, and floor lamps. Sideboard was totaled. A box with six storage cubes(with items still inside) were crammed into one box and ruined. There is a hole at the bottom of my sectional and dried mud on many of my items. The loading truck leaked overnight, dripping a substance that stained many of my pieces. Multiple items are also missing( garbage, dogs crate parts, bath mats, baking sheets, snow shovel). None of the boxes packed were labeled and the majority of the boxes were insufficiently taped. When unpacking, I found that many of my fragile items, including my wine glasses, were packaged with suran wrap or placed in boxes with no protection at all. When I called the owner of this franchise, Lukas, to explain the extent of the damage he cut me with, “Yeah, I get the gist. According to IL law, you’ll get $.30 per lb. You signed the contract.” I asked if there was formal paperwork that I could fill out in regard to the damage and my experience to which he informed me that, “we don’t have any of those.” I was told to text him pictures of the damage and that someone would be in touch within the week to come take pictures of the damage for their insurer. On 12/5, Braden(manager) came out to take the pictures. He was unable to answer any of my questions and told me that the owner, Lukas, would get in touch with me within 48hrs of pics being uploaded. On 12/11, Lukas finally answered my call and said he’d get back to me with an amount by that Fri. On 12/20, Braden said, “insurance was willing to compensate me $125 for all of the damage, but Lukas had approved $200 because he knew that they had messed up.” The sideboard that they totaled alone, was more than $200. While I did not have expectations of completely recouping the value of what I’d lost, I did expect for the company to be fair and make this situation right. Every exchange that I have had with this company has been like pulling teeth. Lukas is awful to work with- offers no empathy, accountability, business savvy, or help. I would never use this company again and I would very strongly advise anyone else to steer clear from using the Crystal Lake College “Hunks” unless they want to lose half of their belongings and sanity in the process.
